A Debden Park High School student who missed a year of her studies while she fought bone cancer is celebrating a school record 12 A* grades in her GCSE exams.
Charlotte James-Hodson is the school’s star student despite having missed her entire Year 7 education.
Now in remission, Charlotte achieved her clean sweep of top grades.
She will now move on to study A-Levels as she aims to become a doctor.
Her mother, Sian Hodson, described her daughter's achievements as "amazing" adding that Charlotte hopes to become a paediatric oncologist "because they saved her life".
Debden Park High School Head of School Helen Gascoyne said: “Charlotte has absolutely swept the board with A*s and we are incredibly excited about her future.”
Charlotte, 16, from Loughton, put her success down to "lots and lots of work".
She added: "In Year 7 I missed a year because I had bone cancer. Since then I've been working, been committed - I love learning."
She added: "I have always hoped for this (12 A*s) but I didn't know."
Debden Park’s GCSE students excelled in their exams this year with 72 per cent of students achieving A*-C grades including English and Maths - 16 per cent above the national average.
Executive Headteacher Christian Cavanagh said: “Our students have been exceptional progress yet again and we are thrilled that these results will allow all of them to take the next steps in their futures.”
Helen Gascoyne said: “This year we have almost a quarter of our students who have achieved at least five or more A and A* grades which is the perfect foundation for them as we welcome them into our Sixth Form in September in our brand new building.”
She added: “The school’s results firmly secure Debden Park High School as a centre of academic excellence both within the local community and nationally.”
