The Summer blazes on...
What is a ship's log?
A book in which the skipper records important details of a voyage such as speed, course, the exact time they sighted land, messages in a rum bottle and finding buried treasure.
Most importantly, whether or not he was accompanied by his vessel when they arrived!

BVI News

The BVI continues to stay vigilant against Covid-19.  We have been able to keep the spread to the minimum with lockdowns and social distancing measures.
We have even developed an innovative new solution to avoid touching your face.
Just hold a glass of beer in each hand!  😁 🍻
Did you know? The BVI version
The RMS Rhone, was commissioned for the Royal Mail Packet Company in 1865 to carry mail and passengers from England to the Caribbean.
Its design was unique, for it had both sail and steam power with one of the first steam-driven cast propellers.
More than 300 passenger cabins were included within her 310 foot length.
Captain Woolley decided to anchor in Peter Island’s Great Harbor  to avoid an outbreak of yellow fever in St. Thomas USVI. Little did he know a category 3 hurricane was on it's way to meet the "unsinkable" ship.
After believing they had survived the storm, the captain and crew were surprised by the back side of the storm and sank on their way to open ocean.
Legend has it the captain was enjoying a cup of tea topside when he fell overboard in heavy seas and was never seen again.

Rhone is now a popular dive site, and the area around her was turned into a national park in 1980.

Fun Fact. The Rhone served as the backdrop for the underwater scenes from the 1977 filming of Peter Benchley’s “The Deep” with Nick Nolte, Jacqueline Bisset and Robert Shaw.

Skills testing question

The winner of last month's skills testing question
🏆 Taylor Deschene, California USA 🏆

1. What does RMS stand for in the RMS Rhone?

2. You can walk a short wild sage-dotted trail from Foxy's Taboo on Jost Van Dyke to an interesting "rock and water" phenomenon. What is it called? (Clue: It's features in this month's Capt. Conch's destination suggestion)
Answers to last month's questions were:
The anchorage at Soper's Hole in the west end of Tortola is protected by the hills of Tortola and a cay. Name the Cay? Frenchman's Cay

This month's Conchcotion

It was a windy day when we invented this drink, so we called it...

2 oz of Conch Superior Rum (or any other that pales in comparison)
1 oz  of Vodka
1/4 oz of Grenadine
1/4 oz of lime juice
2 oz of Pineapple Juice

Pour all the ingredients except the Grenadine into an ice filled cocktail shaker.
Shake it off like Taylor Swift.
Pour into a high ball glass filled with ice.
Top with Grenadine and garnish with a slice of lime. (Umbrella optional).

Parting pearls of wisdom
If the world is a book, those who don't travel (or in our case charter) have read only one page - St Augustine.
