Northern Powergrid July newsletter 

Hello and welcome to our July newsletter. In this edition we ask you about our power cuts campaign, we tell you good news stories about our work with Citizens Advice and our colleague's fantastic achievements. We also tell you about how we've helped to provide a 'Hub' of information for community energy groups. 
What do you think of our winter campaign?

We're starting work on our winter 2016/17 power cuts campaign and we'd like to know what you think about what we've done up to now.

Last year's campaign reached out to our customers through social media and radio to help them understand who we are, what we do and how to respond during a power cut.  

Our messaging reminded our customers that we're there for them 24/7 with a professional team of engineers and customer service advisors ready to respond if they ever experience a power cut. We also informed customers about our power cut reporting tool and all of the helpful advice and guidance we have available online. Finally, we encouraged customers who may need extra support to sign-up to our Priority Services Register.

We'd like to know what you think to our campaign... Did you hear our radio advert? Are we using the right media? Are we sending the right message?

We're sponsoring the Community Energy Hub

We're really excited to be part of Community Energy England's refreshed Community Energy Hub!

The Hub is designed to provide a single point of access for information on community energy; helping people to easily find the information they need when they need it and to help community energy groups share information among themselves and with other organisations, including potential funders or project partners.

The Hub is a free resource for community energy projects that will be developed on an ongoing basis to expand the amount of information available.

So if you're one of our Community Energy Fund Winners or you're interested in learning more about community energy projects then take a look around. 

Energy Advice unplugged at Citizens Advice
Fuel poverty is a very real problem in the UK; in England alone there are over 2.3 million fuel poor households. We make five promises to our customers and one of those is ‘being there when you need us’, which is why our social programme looks to support those people in our communities who are most vulnerable.

We've sponsored a Fuel Debt Advisor through Newcastle Citizens Advice since late 2014 and, following the success of the project, we've extended our community support to provide 'Energy Advice unplugged' at Leeds Citizens Advice. We're sponsoring outreach workers to go into communities across Leeds to host energy clinics. 

Held in community centres, libraries and doctors surgeries, the clinics will enable local people to easily access vital help and advice about energy. People visiting the clinics will receive an assessment of their personal needs, advice and help on trust fund applications and maximising income, as well as information about how to switch supplier. If appropriate, they’ll also be signed up to our Priority Services Register, which provides customers with extra support in a power cut.

Our colleague at the Action on Hearing Loss volunteer awards

Our colleague, Michelle Hedley, has been recognised at the Action on Hearing Loss’s National Volunteer Awards for her contribution to supporting a major campaign outside of her every day working life.

Michelle was honoured for her substantial role in developing and driving forward the Action on Hearing Loss 'Subtitle It!' campaign. The campaign aims to increase the amount of subtitles on catch-up and ‘on demand’ content for TV and film, so that people with a hearing loss can enjoy content just like their hearing peers. 

We're very proud of Michelle's achievement and her dedication to support Action on Hearing Loss.
