Service Requests — A Different Perspective

  • Do you hesitate to call for a Viva Village volunteer?
  • Do you say to yourself – “I could do this myself”?
  • Do you think – “It’s such a small job, I don’t want to bother anyone”?
We all know a volunteer is essential for those tasks that we can’t (or shouldn’t) do anymore.

However, there are other compelling reasons to request Viva Village
volunteer services.

Here are 8 More To Consider:
  1. Viva Village volunteers are great!
  2. You can make a new friend.
  3. You can shorten your to-do list.
  4. A willing volunteer can do tasks you aren't comfortable doing anymore.
  5. You can lighten the load by sharing it — and have fun in the process!
  6. There are tasks you could do, but would rather spend your energy elsewhere.
  7. Staying independent sometimes means asking for help.
  8. And, last, but not least — Requesting services makes Viva Village sustainable.

This month's book:
Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet, by Jamie Ford

This beautifully written book is a glimpse of the damage that is caused by war—not the sweeping damage of the battlefield, but the damage to the hearts and humanity of individual people.

This book selection particularly timely given that this year marks the 75th anniversary of the Executive Order issued by President Roosevelt that led to the internment of Japanese in the United States.

Nature Walk:Tualatin Hills Nature Park
Tualatin Hills Nature Park—
Oak Trail, Cedar Mill Creek

Saturday, April 1, 9:00 am
Meet at the Nature Center

15655 SW Millikan Way, Beaverton 97006

“In the heart of Beaverton, Cedar Mill Creek spills into the westward flowing Beaverton Creek. Surrounding this confluence is the Tualatin Hills Nature Park, a remarkably diverse 222-acre wildlife preserve with wetlands, forests and streams.” (from the THPRD web site)

The Oak Trail is an easy, paved trail that goes through mixed forest areas to a boardwalk over the wetlands of Cedar Mill Creek. To stay on a hard surface path, simply turn around (at the red arrow) and enjoy the Oak Trail from another perspective back to the Nature Center. Those who can handle a soft surface trail will want to go past the end of the boardwalk, turn left at the Creek Trail, and then continue westward to the Vine Maple Trail or to some of the other trails.

April is the best month to see the lovely white or pink Trillium flowers along the trail and to hear the songs of breeding birds. See Yongkie's wonderful pictures of the Nature Park here.

The Tualatin Hills Nature Park is a wildlife preserve, so please leave your dogs at home this time.
