MITACAL CoLab Proposals
Put a Price on Carbon
Momentum is building from community meetings to statehouses to the committee halls of Congress for carbon pricing. Massachusetts is becoming a national leader in the effort. Learn how MIT alums around the world can plug into this important mechanism for emissions reduction!
Create a Green Careers Hub
Many students and alums are interested in green careers, but don’t have the resources or expertise at hand to carve out their own path. A green careers hub will leverage existing career services to promote careers that help the climate for students and alums at all levels of professional development!
EdX, MIT’s successful online education platform, can be expanded to deliver technical information and communication skills on climate issues. This layer within EdX will bring together diverse experts and topics to bring this vital knowledge to alums and the public around the world!
Global Cities, Global Solutions
The trend towards urbanization presents unique challenges and opportunities for climate mitigation and adaptation. The expertise of MIT alums and global partners in fields ranging from architecture and planning to engineering and science as well as management, policy, and activism should be leveraged to ensure resilient, sustainable communities in a warmer world.

MITACAL in the news
Response to conservative pundit George Will in Boston Herald
MITACAL’s Quinton Zondervan rebutted the hollow arguments of Will’s recent op-ed, which attempted to argue that the COP21 Paris agreement was a meaningless milestone, for the fossil fuel era will soldier on no matter what. Zondervan highlights Will’s defeatism and willful ignorance in dismissing the ongoing renewable energy revolution.
Call for premier Earth science org to cut ties with fossil fuel industry
MITACAL’s Britta Voss, together with Earth science graduate students at Harvard and MIT, shine a spotlight on the conflict of interest in the American Geophysical Union’s greenwashing of ExxonMobil in the Guardian.
