Upcoming ‘Come and Try’ Day with the Rainbow Region
Dragon Boat Club

The Rainbow Region Dragon Boat Club is planning an all-abilities open day of dragon boating on Sunday 19 February. The ‘Come and Try’ Day springs from a pilot trial held in December with several people with disability (Ability Links participants and peer staff) on Lake Ainsworth, to help identify and overcome challenges.

Youth Connections Clubhouse – Recruiting for Youth Group Facilitators

We are currently recruiting at Social Futures for positions within the Youth Connections Clubhouse. These positions are during school term, the worker will be required to work one week of every school holiday for programming and planning purposes.

Positions Available:
  • Youth Group Facilitator – Lismore- full time, possible job share by negotiation.
  • Youth Group Facilitator– Outreach (x2)- part time 4 days per week
  • The Clubhouse Youth Group Facilitator – part time 5 days per week

Renewed calls for Centrelink to suspend debt recovery system

Vinnies has joined the chorus of welfare organisations demanding the government suspend the Centrelink debt recovery system, saying it should not be viewed as a “weapon” of deficit reduction, Pro Bono News reports.

Inquiry: NDIS services for people with mental health conditions

The NDIS Joint Standing Committee has announced an Inquiry into the provision of services under the NDIS for people with psychosocial disabilities related to a mental health condition.

The National Disability Insurance Agency (NDIA) is developing a new benchmarking function that will help existing and aspiring National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) providers compare their operations with other providers in the market.

Bundjalung Art Project EOI

Lismore City Council is seeking expressions of interest from Bundjalung artists to create a new work in the Lismore Quadrangle. Deadline: 10 February 2017.

ACCC releases disability consumer rights information

The ACCC has released a number of resources including fact sheets and videos designed for consumers with a disability, their carers and support networks relating to consumer rights around product or service for NDIS participants.

Calling All Artists: Tweed Shire Council Roundabout Public Art EOI

Tweed Shire Council is seeking Expressions of Interest from artists for artworks to be installed in roundabouts at Murwillumbah and Chinderah. Closing date: January 25.

Historic Class Action Settlement for Workers with Intellectual Disabilities

As many as 10,000 workers with intellectual disabilities could be paid compensation in excess of $100 million after the Federal Court approved a historic class action settlement, Pro Bono News reports.

The JFY Mentoring program has produced a video where you can hear directly from the participants of this user-led youth initiative as they talk about the benefits of peer mentoring.

Affordable, Portable Homes to be Built on Vacant Government Land

In a landmark collaboration between not-for-profit organisation Launch Housing, philanthropists and the Victorian government, vacant land will provide affordable homes to people priced out of the rental market, Pro Bono News reports.
More than 50 one-bedroom homes will be built on nine parcels of vacant land, belonging to VicRoads, in Melbourne’s inner west, in what has been called a “roadmap” to tackle affordable housing.

Volunteer driving mentors wanted

Become a volunteer Driving Mentor with HART Services and assist learners to accumulate driving hours and experience. Some people may not have the advantage of a family member or friend who can assist them accumulate the hours required to obtain their Ps. They may be Carers for their parent or family member, not have family support or have access to a vehicle.
