Chamber Update

The new executive management committee have hit the ground running with a real sense of energy, contribution and enjoyment. It is rewarding to see these people going about their responsibilities as we seek to build on the proud history and achievements of those who have gone before us. And in particular those who for so many years worked so hard to keep the Chamber going and growing. You know who you are – thank you.
Membership is on the increase and so too is the excellent feedback we are receiving with respect to our focus on the reasons we as a chamber exist.

The initiatives we are currently working on include:

  • The Big Breakfast
  • Scholarships
  • Women in Business
  • Public Relations and
  • New members.

Relationships are what business is about. Our business community will grow through the endeavours of our young people in secondary and tertiary education. I am keen to see the Chamber build on what has already been started through our scholarships. Please continue to support your local business whenever you can.

Vice President

Women and Business Executive Representative | Kellie Pamic

We have recently been meeting with members who have not been able to make it to our breakfasts and finding ways for them to contribute and participate with the Chamber as well as identify additional meeting times that would suit them. Is this you? Please email vicepresident@hillschamber.org.au so we can find out what works for you too.

We are also actively recruiting to find members who have not joined the Chamber because our breakfast times didn't suit. Do you know someone in this position? Please share this information with them so they can contact us.

Our first Women and Business event will be held as a morning tea event in October - further details to come! Any assistance will be warmly welcomed. Kellie

Secretary

At the last breakfast meeting, our member speaker was Janelle Hansen who shared her personal and business story. It was inspiring to hear how she fought to overcome a life threatening illness and then went on to build the highly successful Curves Mitchelton with her husband Chris.

The table discussion 'What Action or Education could you take that would help your business right now?' produced some great thoughts and positive feedback.
Bill Richards, the President of the Logan Chamber of Commerce finished off the morning with some insights into what they are doing in Logan. Many were inspired by some of their community engagement activities.

Our free breakfast draw was won by Elaine Parker from Arana Leagues Club.  Leonard

Treasurer

Chairperson | Scholarship Committee Craig Cooper

The Chamber's bank account (Bendigo Bank) has a balance of $9,926. Our current commitments amount to $3000 including the Big Breakfast commitments, leaving a reserve of $6,936.

The 2014 Scholarship recipients were:
  • Chryselle Yates, Ferny Grove High School
  • Sophia McNeal, Mitchelton High School
  • Ben Fisher, Prince of Peace Lutheran College
These students have been invited to attend the 2015 BarterCard Big Breakfast. Craig

Big Breakfast

Chairperson | Bruce Kimball

Five weeks and counting…
The Committee is excited to announce BarterCard as our major sponsor for the Big Breakfast fundraising event on 9 September and have naming rights as part of a sponsorship package.
Thanks to Cr Andrew Wines, Enoggera Ward for a $4,000 funding grant to offset costs associated with conducting the event.
The Committee would like to also acknowledge and thank members for their generosity having donated individual gifts and raffle prizes in excess of $4,000 in value. As Chamber members, the Committee would greatly appreciate your promotion and on-selling of the event to your clients, customers and colleagues. Electronic DL size flyers (PDF and jpeg) are available for your personal use.
Tables and individual tickets are selling fast - six tables have already been snapped up by eager early bird members and supporters.
Please note, registration is from 6.45am, and an exciting new plated breakfast menu will be served promptly at 7am. Contact Bruce Kimball on 0421 449 924 for any further information.
Sporting legend Vicki Wilson is our special guest speaker on the subject of how to keep ahead of the competition - in business and in sport.
The Big Breakfast Committee organised a photo opportunity with Quest Newspapers for the purposes of promoting the Big Breakfast event. Through Arana Sport, we arranged two of their junior netballers, Vanessa and Asha to join Chamber President, Ron Crump in an early morning photo shoot.
The 2014 recipients were:
  • Chryselle Yates, Ferny Grove High School
  • Sophia McNeal, Mitchelton High School
  • Ben Fisher, Prince of Peace Lutheran College
The students have been invited to attend the 2015 BarterCard Big Breakfast.

To increase the lines of communication to members, we are currently trialing a new method of digital mail-outs using MailChimp. This direct marketing software allows us to email and track the campaign and make it really easy for members to purchase their breakfast tickets and membership using direct links. We would love your feedback on this new vehicle and also your thoughts on the new newsletter format, so please email me your suggestions - alisa@limelightpr.net.au

The Big Breakfast email went to all members using MailChimp (let me know if you didn't get yours) and can be forwarded to any of your contacts to also invite them to the Breakfast. Also, keep an eye out for our article in the NW News this week.

PS Please continue to LIKE and SHARE items on our FB page... it will help increase awareness of the Chamber.  Alisa
