Welcome to the Hills & District Chamber of Commerce - a friendly and supportive business group bridging the Ferny Hills, Arana Hills, Ferny Grove, Keperra, Mitchelton and surrounding districts. Established 1992, our Chamber is not-for-profit and is affiliated with the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Queensland.

Next Showcase - Thursday 27th April

Banksia Women’s Healing Centre is the venue for the next showcase.

Charmaine Renaud is opening the doors to Chamber members and their guests on Thursday 27 April for an early evening event to showcase her business. It’s open to both men and women so please come along and learn more about how Charmaine developed her business. It’s a great story. Contact Charmaine for more details on 3351 4691.

Registrations: Please register via the Chamber’s website (EVENTS) as numbers are limited, it also helps work out space requirements and catering.

Cost: Free

Time: 5.45pm for 6pm until about 7.30pm

Where: Shop 1/288 Dawson Parade, Arana Hills Qld 4054. Ample car parking available at back of premises between Glenlee and Nepean Streets (behind Domino’s on Dawson Parade).

Doing great PR - the magic of the 30-second elevator pitch

At the 28 February breakfast, we did things a little differently. We spent some time listening to our new members who spoke to the members and guests in the room. Then at each table we spoke about who we were individually as way of introducing ourselves and our business (a mini elevator pitch), then after that we discussed a table topic. Which brings up the question about the sometimes-dreaded elevator pitch!

Being able to pitch your business to anyone is doing yourself a great PR favour. You can have 7 second ones, 30-45 second ones. You sound ready and on the ball to those you meet, and in short you could be attracting new clients by being prepared with a few of these in your repertoire. And being a member of the Chamber it’s all about networking and having a quick and succinct way of talking about what you do and what makes you different to all the rest, this is gold.

Tip: Just before your 30 seconds are over • End with a call to action—a future meeting or a phone call to continue the conversation. • Ask for a business card and supply one, as well.

Hello Everyone,
Our Chamber is going from strength to strength. Our breakfast this month recorded the most registrations ever.

However it was the energy, the innovation, the sharing of ideas, the learning, the getting to know people and their businesses better and the many laughs that made this event one of our best.

An increase in numbers is excellent yet it is the amount of willing participation that is giving us our momentum.

I was reminded this past week that this is our 25th year as a Chamber and it seems appropriate that we should celebrate this milestone. One would think that those who founded the Chamber would be proud of our collective efforts building on the collective efforts of those that have preceded us.

How might we celebrate and recognize these 25 years that have gone by so quickly? If you have any thoughts on the matter please contact any one of the executive as soon as you can.

Lastly I share with you the fact that I have been privileged to see and experience the movie Hidden Figures. The movie tells the story of the USA getting into space. The experience is about three brilliant, high achieving women and for someone like me who lived through this era it was like holding a mirror to my innermost prejudices that I did not know that I held. These were three humans who irrespective of gender, skin colour and cultural background simply blew away the shackles of limitations and in the most humble of ways changed our world...and me for the better.  Ron

We had 63 registered with 60 in attendance at our February meeting. Our largest attendance ever for a monthly breakfast. Achieving 200 members by year's end looks achievable.

We had several enthusiastic ‘shout outs’ (members acknowledging the good work of other members) supporting our take a card and contact a member program.
The Table Discussion - ‘To achieve your most important results this year what changes will you make to ensure that happens?’ saw lots of loud excited discussion.

Our Member Speaker, Donna Ferguson from Rainbows Empowering Women gave an excellent presentation reminding us of some of the basics of personal development.

Membership now stands at 94 with 13 registrations including 12 new members for the coming year.  Leonard

Communications & Public Relations

The Committee met in February. At the February breakfast, we did a shout out for volunteers to join us. There are various tasks involved in writing, posting articles, Chamber public relations work and support in various other communication-related activities. Executive Representative | James Niven

In the March meeting I am looking forward to being the Guest Speaker and presenting to the chamber plus presenting on the Buy Local Program commencement. Our aim for this naturally is to increase the spending cycle within the chamber whilst also attracting new businesses to the chamber. I would also just like to acknowledge Mr Brian Battersby for his work in putting together a Meet the Candidates for the upcoming State Election. If you would like to be involved in the Development & Advocacy Group we are always looking for more contributors to ensuring the Chamber is attracting new Businesses and delivering shared interests and initiatives.  James
