Research infrastructure for the circular forest bioeconomy

FTP's new website goes live

FTP’s new website is now up and running with a refreshed and modern visual and more than 100 pages of information. Now fully integrated with the revamped FTP Database (FTP DB), the new website connects relevant facts with detailed figures of research and innovation projects carried out by the sector. Register your research project in FTP's Database

Nearly 700 ongoing and completed forest-based sector research and innovation projects are registered in the new FTP Database launched by FTP in March 2017. FTP DB was revamped with a more user-friendly interface and equipped with powerful search and report functionalities that allow customized consultation. If your research project is not featured in the FTP DB, please contact Ms Heini Hyrkkö at heini.hyrkko@forestplatform.org.

European Spallation Source raising the profile of the EU research infrastructure 

The special envoy of the Swedish government and Chairperson of the FTP Board, Lena Ek presented the European Spallation Source (ESS) to representatives of the Member States and from the European Commission during a breakfast briefing session on 28 March 2017 in Brussels. The ESS is a multi-disciplinary research facility for materials and life science research based on the world’s most powerful neutron source.

European Commission to set up a Stakeholders Platform on Circular Economy 

The ambition of the European Commission to create a dedicated Stakeholders Platform on Circular Economy was announced during the Circular Economy Stakeholder Conference, that took place on 9-10 March 2017. The initiative is expected to be undertaken by the European Economic and Social Committee (EECS) in partnership with the Directorate General for the Environment (DG ENV) of the European Commission.

Joint Call will fund networking activities among Nordic forest and agro sectors

The Network grants are for a period of 1-2 years with a total budget of over € 90 thousand (800,000 SEK). Submissions will be accepted until 24 April 2017.

Building with wood the focal point of Value of Wood Forum

During the Value of Wood Forum, FTP Managing Director Johan Elvnert explained that innovative wood-based materials and products proved excellent performance in the construction sector. “Wood has low embodied energy, is five times lighter than concrete and steel and it is a natural thermal insulator. Expanding its use is a certainly a strategic decision that will contribute to fulfilling Europe’s targets in the international climate agreements”.

In three intensive days, the 7th edition of the Nordic Wood Biorefinery Conference (NWBC), that finished on 30 March 2017 in Stockholm, showcased the latest innovative, wood-based biorefineries, novel production processes and evolving concepts of biorefineries.

Registration open for BBI Info Day 

The Bio-Based Industry Joint Undertaking has opened registration for its Info Day and Brokerage Event taking place on 28 April 2017 in Brussels. The aim of the event is to bring together potential participants interested in the BBI JU 2017 Calls for proposals, including SMEs, large industries and academia.

EU  paper industry estimates an investment of  44 billion to cut its carbon emissions by 80%

Pathways and needed investment to reduce emissions of the European paper industry by 80% while creating 50% more added-value are detailed in the reviewed version of the 2050 Roadmap to a low-carbon economy, recently launched by the Confederation of European Paper Industries (CEPI).
