UK PET Chemistry meeting success

SINAPSE proudly hosted the 2016 UK PET Chemistry meeting in Edinburgh on 4 May. The meeting was a great success, with sessions covering the topics of Fluorine-18, Carbon-11, Other Positron Emitters (with Gallium-68 featuring prominently) and New Technology. Excellent keynote talks were delivered by Prof David Newby, on imaging research into cardiovascular disease, and Prof Paul Matthews, on PET-MRI imaging in dementia. SINAPSE members Dr Christophe Lucatelli, Dr Sally Pimlott and Anne Grant deserve special thanks for their hard work in organising a wonderful event.

Imaging research job vacancies

A number of job vacancies have recently been posted on the SINAPSE website. Two which are still open at the University of Edinburgh are posts for a Neuroradiology Clinical Research Fellow in the EPAD programme and for a Research Fellow in Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Analysis to work on the SVDs@Target project.

If you are seeking job opportunities in imaging research, be sure to check the SINAPSE website regularly, and if you have a job vacancy to advertise, please e-mail the details to

The Brain Prize course: Hippocampus from Circuits to Cognition

As part of the CAJAL Advanced Neuroscience Training Programme, The Brain Prize course will be held 10-31 October 2016 at the Bordeaux Neurocampus, France. The goal of this year's course, Hippocampus from Circuits to Cognition, is to give in-depth exposure to the breadth of research on the hippocampus and to provide hands-on training in state-of-the-art methods used to study hippocampal function. Application deadline: 11th July 2016. More details...

The 19th International Conference on Medical Image Computing and Computer Assisted Intervention (MICCAI) has a number of activities involving and calling for participation from SINAPSE members. The meeting will be held 17-21 October 2016 in Athens, Greece.

Image of the Month: 18F-Fluorination

Our June Image of the Month, courtesy of Prof David O’Hagan, shows the fluorinase enzyme catalysing 18F-Fluorination of a dendrimeric PGD peptide for radiochemical imaging.

More submissions needed! Please help us continue to publicise Scottish imaging research by e-mailing your interesting and impressive images to, including an image credit and short descriptive caption for each one (and optionally a link to your research webpage).

SINAPSE Member Profile: Dr Adam Waldman

Adam Waldman has recently joined The University of Edinburgh as Chair of Neuroradiology. Adam undertook a PhD and post-doctoral research in biophysics before training in medicine at Cambridge, then in Radiology and Neuroradiology in London. Prior to coming to Edinburgh he was Consultant Neuroradiologist and academic lead for Radiology at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, and held honorary academic appointments at Imperial College London. His main research interests have been in quantitative, physiological and molecular neuroimaging, particularly as applied to neurooncology, neurodegenerative and neuroinflammatory diseases. He is very much looking forward to developing these collaborative multidisciplinary research themes further in Edinburgh, within SINAPSE, and across wider networks.
