Keeping us healthy means keeping you, ourselves and neighbors healthy. We ask the entire community to be vigilant in following all new protocols as we navigate this time and find new ways to support each other.

As noted through LifeLoop, the following are updates to Community Life at
First Place:
  • Offering more pedestrian-accessible hiking/walking activities while all off-site community life events are cancelled.
  • Adding floor tape and reconfiguring seating arrangements to promote the recommended six-foot social distance.
  • Limiting the number of residents and staff on The Landmark and on the ground floor and upper-level lobbies at any given time, along with promoting groups of 10 or fewer in outdoor and courtyard areas.
  • Utilizing floor lobbies—areas 2, 3 and 4—for structured activities while community spaces such as the fitness center, game room, Lego Lounge and culinary teaching kitchen are closed.
  • Providing a few restaurant-prepared and catered meals weekly to replace culinary teaching kitchen and other activities.
  • Using technology-based (telephone/video chat) support or meetings in common space areas while we limit staff presence in residents’ apartments.
  • Activating Parking Lot Place. (Watch for more details later this week!)
  • Creating a First Place Pantry for food and other essential items to discourage off-site trips, including to nearby convenience stores.
In light of rapidly changing developments locally, nationally and around the world, we are doing our very best to take precautions and respond to federal, state and Maricopa County guidelines and protocols.

Here’s what we each can do for ourselves and our corner of the world here at
First Place–Phoenix:
  • Wash hands thoroughly and correctly for 20 seconds with soap that foams. First Place requires hand-washing upon entering the property—no exceptions!
  • Wipe down surfaces, especially metal surfaces (e.g., door handles, etc.) regularly. The virus can remain viable on metal surfaces for up to nine days.
  • Wash clothing daily with detergent that kills the virus.
  • Practice proper personal hygiene (e.g., regular baths/showers,
    including washing hair).
Your support, encouragement and cooperation are greatly appreciated and very much needed during these challenging—and all—times!

Best of health,

Nancy Ottmann
