Dear Parents,

Resource Packet: This past Tuesday you should have received a "School's Been Cancelled" resource packet from me via email. If you have any questions about this resource, please don't hesitate to ask.

Reading: This week we read How Chipmunk Got His Stripes by Joseph and James Bruchac. Our essential question was, "How can stories help you learn a lesson?" We recalled lessons that we've learned from stories but decided the most important lessons are from the Bible. We read the story individually, in groups, and with partners to help build our vocabulary, sight words, and fluency. We worked on using -ed and -ing endings, divided words into syllables, and reviewed synonyms and nouns.

Math: We studied money this week. We discussed why learning about money is important and what God has to say about our money. The students said that God wants us to spend our money wisely and use it to help others. We also decided that we needed to be honest about money because God is honest. We reviewed the names and values of each coin (penny, nickel, dime, quarter) and practiced counting up collections of coins. We added half-dollars and practiced putting coins into 'counting order' from greatest to least value. To continue this unit at home have your child practice counting up collections of various coins and have him/her identify the name and value of coins for you.

Cursive: This week we learned the letters N, M, and U. We continue to work on proper pencil grip and writing in cursive on all of our work.

Social Studies: We wrapped up our study of the Pilgrims and the Thanksgiving holiday this week by reviewing all that we learned and taking a short quiz. The students worked on finishing up their Pilgrim comparison books. We also finished up our thank you notes to others, practicing gratitude and thankfulness along with community building.

Bible: We have learned all of Jeremiah 29:11-13 in class. We continued to study the Sermon on the Mount and learned that we should pray for those who give us a hard time, help others because we genuinely want to rather than to make ourselves look good, and pray from our hearts when we pray. We were also reminded that we don't need to worry because God has everything under His control.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

In Christ,
