Dear Parents,

Parties: You are invited to attend our German Feast and Gingerbread Parties! Younger siblings not in school are also invited. Many of you signed up to help (thank you!) and there are still opportunities so please check our Sign Up page. Even if you didn't sign up to help, we would LOVE to have you attend and celebrate with us!

Reading: We read the story Ah, Music! by Aliki. Our essential question for this story was “What are different ways to honor God with music?” We talked about playing instruments, singing worship songs, and listening to music as ways to be Beauty Creators, God Worshippers, and Creation Enjoyers. We worked on vocabulary, practiced the long a sound spelled ai and ay, proofread our spelling words, learned to understand idioms like "hold your horses," and practiced capitalizing proper nouns. We also practiced taking notes from the text and used our notes to write advice to a friend about listening to music.

Math: We estimated and measured with centimeters and had fun measuring objects in the classroom including ourselves and our friends! We practiced measuring in inches and created line plots with our data. We also reviewed our unit in preparation for our unit assessment on Monday. Our review packet is in your child's backpack today so he/she can review over the weekend.

Cursive: This week we learned the letters P, R, and G. Please continue to help your child remember to use cursive on all of his/her work.

Social Studies: We had fun participating in two German legends this week and creating ornaments for each. I hope you had fun hanging them on your Christmas tree! We also had wonderful guests come teach us how to speak some German! I hope your child taught you some German words at home!

Writing: The students are writing the rough drafts of their fairytales including all the important elements of a fairytale. We will go through the complete writing process (brainstorming, prewriting, rough draft, revising, editing, and publishing) with our fairytales. We are excited to share them with each other at our author's celebration next week!

Bible: We have learned verses 8-12 of Luke 2:8-16 in class. This week we learned about several of Jesus' miracles including calming the storm, healing the demoniac and paralytic, and raising Jairus' daughter from the dead. We noticed that Jesus only had to speak in order to perform the miracles and it reminded us of God speaking to create the world.

Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns.

In Christ,
