Homework: There is no homework next week. A new packet will be sent home the Monday after break. Please remember to practice our November Bible memory work as it is due on Monday, December 2nd.
December Events: We have several fun events planned in December! Please read the letter about our Germany unit and mark our parties on your calendar! All parents and younger siblings are invited to attend (even for just a short time). We need many helpers to pull these off so please sign up to help. We hope to see you there!
Reading: This week we read Jellies: The Life of Jellyfish by Twig C. George. We read the story individually, in groups, and with partners to help build our vocabulary, sight words, and reading fluency. Our essential question was “What is special about animals that live in the ocean?” The students recognized that God gave jellyfish (and other ocean animals) special characteristics to make them unique and help them survive. We worked on vocabulary, practiced spelling and using contractions, identified singular and plural nouns, used past, present, and future verb tenses, and also used suffixes.
Math: We continued to work with money this week. We compared amounts to prices and learned how to make change. We finished up our unit and took our unit assessment. The students are also earning ‘money’ for their gingerbread houses at our Gingerbread Party. They are earning money for their good behavior, following directions, helping others, etc. This money will be used to purchase all the candy for their houses! The students are very motivated to not only earn money but to count up their collection of coins!
Cursive: This week we learned the letters V, W, and Y. Please help your child remember to write the letters we’ve learned in cursive on all his/her homework.
Social Studies: We began learning about Germany this week. The students learned about the location, the capital city, the population, and the German Flag. The students wrote a fact sheet about Germany. We took a virtual field trip to visit many castles in Germany and to look at the different kinds of architecture. We also learned about German customs, costumes, and inventions. The students learned about different foods, transportation, inventions, traditions, and pets that came from Germany.
Writing: This week we worked on our word choice by choosing more specific synonyms to replace generic words in our writing. After the break we will begin writing fairytales!
Bible: We have learned all of Jeremiah 29:11-13 and Micah 6:8 in class. We continued to learn about Jesus' earthly ministry this week. We learned how He sent out the disciples, about the Sabbath day, His power over evil spirits, and how He was rejected by many. We also learned about many of His miracles including feeding the 5000 and walking on water.
Have a blessed Thanksgiving holiday!
