Dear Students,

Our Annual Education Resume Marathon is coming to Bavaro Hall on Tuesday, November 3rd, Election Day (with Albemarle County Schools, Carney Sandoe & Associates, Fairfax County Public Schools, Georgetown Learning Centers, Prince William County Public Schools, and Southern Teachers Agency all having signed up) to provide one-on-one resume critiques for you from 3-6pm. I hope to see you there for this not-to-be-missed opportunity!

In the meantime, you can come by Curry Career Services walk-ins on Tuesdays 12-2 and Wednesdays 3:30-5:30pm for assistance, or email Hilary Kerner for an appointment (available Monday-Friday 10:30-2:30pm). It was wonderful to see so many aspiring full-time teachers at the Teacher Ed Professional Development Day yesterday at our workshops on "Creating Effective Resumes." I look forward to the Speech Language Pathology and Audiology Opportunities Panel next Thursday, October 15th.

Virginia Alumni Mentoring (VAM) is a program that connects focused and career-oriented students with alumni who will give insight into specific industries. Graduating in December and looking for teaching opportunities? If so then the VASPA Fall Teacher Job Fair is for you. This year's FREE fair will be held in Richmond on Thursday afternoon, November 12 from 3PM to 6PM at the Richmond Hilton Garden Inn, 501 E. Broad Street. It is a great event for Curry December 2015 graduates and early job search starters! Information for prospective job fair attendees and registration is available at the VASPA website. As in past years, participation is completely free for all attendees, and 40+ Virginia school divisions are expected to be represented.

Join the Education Club at Darden - This is a great opportunity to explore partnerships between Education and Business. The Education Club strives to generate energy, passion, appreciation and focus around the education industry by presenting career pathways for business students and curry students interested in education, raising awareness of education issues among future business leaders and promoting mutually beneficially opportunities with the Curry School of Education, Albemarle/Charlottesville education organizations and the Darden/Curry Partnership for Leadership in Education (PLE).

Tye River Elementary is seeking substitute teachers. Kristina Ormsby (Curry ’15) writes, “I just graduated May of this year in the BAMT program and I now work at Tye River Elementary as a fifth grade teacher. We have an AWFUL time finding substitute teachers; I assume because of the location. It is about a 35 min drive from Charlottesville. [I am hoping to] get the word out to students (particularly next semester, after student teaching) that Tye River needs substitutes if people are interested? NEW - Pedia Staff in Charles Town, WV seeks a Speech-Language Pathologist in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia.This is a public school setting with the contract assignment beginning as soon as possible, and ending in late May/early June. The Family and Child Development program at Texas State University invites applications for two full-time tenure-track positions.  These are 9-month appointments with the possibility of summer teaching

  • One position is available at the Assistant Professor rank with a preference for research interests in early and/or middle childhood, relationship dynamics (e.g., romantic/marital relationship, parent-child, peer, sibling, etc.) and/or children in hospitalized settings. The successful candidate will join the Department of Education Studies during the inaugural year of our new PhD program in Education: Transforming Education in a Diverse Society.
