Hi All,

It certainly has been an exciting start to the new year as we finally made the big move into the newly renovated Ballymun Boiler House. We're delighted with the quality of our new home and we look forward to welcoming guests to the 3D text book which is set to officially open in early April. This unique facility has been designed to build upon the opportunities of the built, natural and cultural environment to support education for sustainable development. The completion of this building is thanks to the great work at ABK Architects, Purcell Construction and of course the entire WISER Life project team.

Building Energy Rating
One of our biggest challenges for the Boiler House was to turn an industrial building which was designed to let heat out into one which would retain heat through the use of sustainable and natural materials. It was therefore a great achievement for the building to achieve an excellent A2 BER (Building Energy Rating) highlighting a very high energy performance.

The Green Awards
To add to the celebrations, we also picked up two awards at the 2017 national Green Awards, the long-standing benchmark for excellence for those demonstrating best green practice in Ireland. The Rediscovery Centre won the Green NGO Award and also the Green Construction Award, in collaboration with Dublin City Council.

Irish Times Feature
In early January we treated Irish Times Journalist, Sylvia Thompson to a sneak preview of our new HQ and 3D Textbook. The article showcased the Rediscovery Centre as a national ecodestination for waste prevention, minimisation, reuse and the circular economy.  Please see here if you would like to read the full article.

Workshops
On January 27th, we welcomed our first workshop of the year with the Virgin Mary Girls National School coming to visit. They took part in our biodiversity workshop & also received the WISER LIFE educational tour. Our website has a short blog about the visit. Please see here to find out more. Since January we are delighted to have welcomed all the local schools in the area to the centre as well as a large number of local businesses and residents.

Over the coming months, the centre will be hosting regular open days, courses and events so please follow us on  Twitter,  Facebook and LinkedIn or contact us on wiser@rediscoverycentre.ie for further information.
