Weekly Hadith

Abu Ayyub al-Ansari (Radhiyallahu Anhu) reported Allaah's Messenger (صلّى الله عليه وآله وسلّمas saying:
He who observed the fast of Ramadhaan and then followed it with six (fasts) of Shawwaal. it would be as if he fasted perpetually.
Sahih Muslim 2615

Fiqh Q & A

What is the 'Kaffara' for a woman who did not make-up her qada fasts from the previous year by the next Ramadhaan? What is required of her to do?

If a woman had a valid excuse that continued throughout a year (like pregnancy, breastfeeding, or traveling) and did not fast, then when able she must repeat those fasts. A Fidyah on account of the delay will not be incurred. Otherwise, if she was able to perform those fasts but did not, then along with having to perform them a Fidyah must be given for each missed day. This amount will increase by year until the fast is performed.

And Allah knows best.

(Tuhfat al-Muhtaj 3/446)

Is it obligatory to fast the six days of Shawwaal consecutively, or one may fast them separately during the month?
One can start observing the six fasts of
Shawwaal from the second day of Shawwaal, because it is Haram to fast on the day of ‘Eid. They can be observed either on consecutive days or separate days throughout the Month of Shawwaal, although the best of good deeds are those which are done soonest.
Observing these fasts on six days of Shawwaal is a stressed Sunnah reported from the Messenger of Allah (صلّى الله عليه وآله وسلّم).
