Dear Friends
We are pleased to let you know that Operation Smile - China Medical Mission has been rebranded to 'Beam International Foundation' ('BEAM') to mark a new start for our 25th anniversary next year. As always, we will keep pursuing our goal of serving unfortunate children in China and around the world. With your committed support, we believe we will grow stronger to help more children BEAM with love and hope.

Medical Mission

In gratitude of our volunteers and donors, we have done 7 medical missions since March -

1) 19-23 March, 22 surgeries completed in Nanchang, Jiangxi (江西南昌)

2) 9-15 April, we completed our 10th medical mission in Zhengzhou, Henan (河南鄭州) by creating 100 surgeries with volunteers from KPMG and A. Menarini

3) 23-29 April, 137 surgeries completed in Nayong, Guizhou (貴州納雍), supported by KPMG

4) 21-27 May, 29 surgeries completed in Jingmen, Hubei (湖北荊門), supported by China Galaxy

5) 4-9 June, 21 surgeries completed in Shenzhen, Guangdong (廣東深圳), supported by Tencent and Rotary Club of Hong Kong Northwest

6) 25 June - 1 July, we set our first ever footprint in Nangqian, Qinghai (青海囊謙) by completing 58 surgeries 

7) 16-22 July, 68 surgeries completed in Liangshan, Sichuan (四川涼山), supported by Mary Kay and Ritz-Carlton hotels in Asia Pacific 

Together with our two partner hospitals in Nanchang and Zhengzhou, we made 516 needy patients beam again this year. Please SUPPORT US to create many more beautiful smiles together!

Medical Training

During 21-28 May, we joined hands with American Heart Association, the Children's Hospital Zhejiang University of Medicine (浙江大學醫學院附屬兒童醫院) and Sir Run Run Shaw Hospital in Hangzhou to provide a series of medical training including Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) for 184 participants from 34 hospitals across China.

Fundraising Activities

On 28 June, Asia Pacific Family Business Club held a gala dinner at Conrad Hong Kong to raise funds for BEAM. The Guest of Honor, Dr Ko Wing-man, BBS, JP, Secretary for Food and Health, our Honorary Smile Ambassador Ms Guo Jing-jing, Mr Kenneth Fok, and celebrities from China, Taiwan as well as in the region attended together with over 500 guests to support our charitable work.*

Our 2XU Run For Smile Ambassador, Mr Tsang Chun Kit (Ying) took the 10th place in the 3-day "King of the Grasslands" challenge of the Genghis Khan Festival with his charmingly repaired smile in Inner Mongolia, 3-5 July. Thanks to Nordic Ways for offering us a good platform to raise funds and attention from participants around the world.

BEAM is glad to be one of the charities at the 6th Children Charities Carnival organised by Prestique to draw support from the younger generation on 4 July. 

Education Programme

Together with participants from other 9 regions, 5 of our Hong Kong and Mainland student members were selected to join the Asia Student Leadership Conference organised by Smile Mission in Singapore to build awareness and learn about core values of commitment, leadership and volunteerism this June.
