Local research at The Citadel shows just how dangerous a problem plastic is for our region. More than 7 tons are breaking down into micro-plastics within the waters of the Charleston Harbor at any given time. These micro-plastics will enter the food chains of marine critters and eventually make their way up into human food chains. You can help by recycling plastic bags at most grocery stores, making them reuseable bin liners for small trash cans, using them to clean up after your pet (dog bags/line cat litter boxes), tying them around your knees to keep clean while gardening, bringing your own bags to the store, and more!
