Light Up Your Landscape… and More illuminates the Toronto habourfront!

On September 19, over 250 top architects, designers and lighting manufacturers joined us at Palais Royale to toast colleagues, network and view the very latest in lighting fixtures and landscape furniture. Bigger and brighter than ever, this year’s event brought an all-new twist, incorporating indoor lighting showcases for the very first time. Set against the backdrop of the Toronto harbour, guests were introduced to new indoor and outdoor products from manufacturers including Delta Light, Amerlux, Lumenwerx, Selux, LumcaWattstopper/Legrand and WE-EF.

In an imaginative use of lighting, one of the night’s many highlights was an illuminated likeness of legendary scientist Albert Einstein, which utilized a powerful fixture from WE-EF to project his image upon a tree in the distance. Guests also enjoyed innovative (and illuminated) cocktails, a delicious ice cream bar, and a fun raffle draw to the IALD Lighting Design Event, for a successful and unforgettable evening all around!

We are thrilled to announce that Light Up Your Life will return next year on Wednesday, September 18. Thank you to all who made this year’s event so very special, and see you all in 2019!

NOTEWORTHY PROJECT

Salex Illuminates Pierre Berton Heritage Centre

Driven and inspired by the work of one of Canada’s preeminent authors and media pioneers, the newly opened Pierre Berton Heritage Centre is an engaging and interactive museum experience located in Kleinberg, Vaughan. Spanning over 3,600 square feet, this accessible, community-use facility revitalizes a historic church for a new purpose, introducing a considered and complementary lighting design to shine a light on Canada’s national story.

Ahead of its grand opening in September 2018, the heritage centre turned to Lynch + Comisso Architecture + Light and Salex Inc. to provide expert illumination that would enhance the visitor experience. Selected for its high degree of design freedom, Axis Stencil, an ultra-thin LED pendant lighting system, was used to create a unique beehive pattern for the roof of this architectural space. To update the building with latest technology, Dual Technology Wall Switch Sensors from Legrand were also integrated into the space, while additional supplementary and emergency lighting was provided by 25W LED Track Heads by LiteLine and The Stella Unibody combo by Beghelli Canada.

Complementing a thoughtful transformation of the church structure, these minimalistic fixtures serve to bridge past and present, bringing new life to a historic building. To learn more about the Pierre Berton project, please visit our website here.
