Winter Alternative Breaks: India
From December 27 to January 7 thirteen LMU students were accompanied by two LMU faculty and staff members as they traveled to Tiruchirappalli, India on one of our winter Alternative Breaks trips. There they learned about the struggles of the Dalit people, the Indian education system, and more about different faiths of Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity. Students also engaged in a number of workshops with students at St. Joseph's College including a collaborative art project pictured below. LMU students also visited with middle school students who they played games with and briefly taught them about life in the United States. Students also met with Joe Arun, S.J. who is the Director of Management Institute at St. Joseph's College. Andrew Joseph, S.J., Principal of St. Joseph's College went above and beyond to welcome our students to their college with banners, performances, and special gatherings with the community.

There were a variety of workshops covering different strategies for being an advocate, knowing your rights, and information on current social justice issues. Over 150 students participated in this event co-sponsored by ASLMU, Housing, and Ethnic and Intercultural Services.
Holiday Drive Recap
Thank you to all of the offices and students that donated to our annual Holiday Drive throughout December. About 20 boxes were distributed around campus to collect donations and almost all were filled up! We received over 100 children's toys, a variety of school supplies, toiletries, and other items that will be donated to Good Shepherd Shelter on behalf of the University. These donations will be used to help serve women and children who are victims of domestic violence.

The G.R.E.E.N. Foundation was selected to facilitate and provide community training in Cameroon, Africa! On the first day of the opening of the medical center nearly 50 people were waiting for health care services. Two outreach education sessions occurred and in each session goodie bags were handed out with basic hygiene items. Ernesta Wright, Executive Director of The G.R.E.E.N.
