Daily tragedies - ongoing occupation
The increased violence in the occupied Palestinian territory (oPt) and in Israel has led to more than 180 Palestinians being killed and an even greater number of injuries; there have been 28 Israeli deaths in the same period. Thanks to Middle East Monitor we can publish the names of the Palestinians and Israelis who have died in the period from 1 October to 21 February. There are large numbers of very young people and families who have lost more than one member. The full list can be read here. Since 21 February, there have been even more deaths and injuries - update to follow.

Support the campaign!
It is important that we protest and support the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions Campaign.
Please sign and share our postcard from Palestine to government minister Matthew Hancock. He went all the way to Israel to announce that the UK Government has new guidelines and will issue regulations that try to prevent councils from making ethical decisions. The government wants to block Councils from supporting action against Israeli settlements.
Tell the UK Government to hold the Israeli Government to account and act to uphold Palestinian human rights and British democracy.
Mohammed Al Qeeq ends 94 day hunger strike
33 year old journalist Mohammed Al Qeeq began a hunger strike when he was imprisoned by Israeli authorities without charge or trial; 94 days later he was very close to death. An agreement was reached that his administrative detention (detention without charge or trial) would not be renewed and he is due to be released on 21 May 2016.
The number of Palestinians held in prison by the Israeli authorities continues to rise, including the number in administrative detention.
At the end of 2016, Addameer reported that there were 6,066 (now estimated to be 6,900) of which 3,445 prisoners were serving sentences, 1,740 with legal proceedings continuing. At the end of 2016 there were 584 held in administrative detention that figure is now closer to 650. 450 children are currently being held in Israeli prisons.
One year since the Israeli elections in March 2015, the Knesset has introduced new discriminatory and anti-democratic legislation that will severely harm the rights of Palestinian citizens of Israel and Palestinians in the Occupied Palestinian Territory (OPT), as well as those who defend their rights.
Adalah has collected 10 examples of these new laws and bills, which were enacted or proposed during the latest round of violence in Israel and the occupied Palestinain territory, and the increasing attacks on human rights organisations and movements.
