MARKET DAYS FESTIVAL

Despite the rain, we will be making an appearance today at Intown Concord's Market Days Festival for Touch-A-Truck. We hope the weather will cooperate enough for us to stay through the event until 6:00 p.m., but please keep an eye on our social media for updates if there are any changes due to weather.

Come get behind the wheel of some of our equipment vehicles and stop by the display table to grab brochures, free goodies, and to subscribe to the General Gazette newsletter to be entered for a chance to win a bundle of pay-as-you-throw trash bags!

The Market Days Festival will take place on Main Street August 19-21 from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. Admission is free and there will be various food trucks, shopping vendors, family-friendly activities, local artists, and live entertainment.

Main Street will be closed for this event from Hills Avenue to Centre Street / Loudon Road starting at 4:00 a.m. Thursday and continuing through 1:00 a.m. Sunday. Road closures will also apply to side streets, including Pleasant, Depot, Warren, School, Capitol, and Park streets. Find more information at www.marketdaysfestival.com

HOUSEHOLD HAZARDOUS WASTE COLLECTION DAY

Our annual Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day will be held on Saturday, September 18, 2021 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Douglas N. Everett Arena (15 Loudon Road).

Concord residents should bring their household hazardous waste to the event to safely dispose of harmful materials. Household hazardous wastes are leftover household products that are toxic, ignitable, corrosive, or reactive, such as – cleaners, paint, pesticides, adhesives, polishes, and fuels. Hazardous materials should not be disposed of in the trash, down any drains, in storm sewers, or on the ground. Improperly disposing of these materials can seriously impact public health and the environment. It is important to carefully dispose of dangerous materials to avoid any potential risks of hazardous wastes.

Concord residents can bring up to 10 gallons or 20 pounds of household hazardous waste at Concord’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day for proper disposal. Acceptable items to bring include items such as oil based paints (no latex paint), gasoline, transmission fluid, swimming pool chemicals, insecticides, fertilizers, and furniture cleaner. Decisions to accept or refuse material will be made on-site. Please do not bring fluorescent bulbs, fire extinguishers, radioactive waste, industrial waste, ammunition, prescription medication, regular trash, or latex paint. Latex paint is not hazardous and can be disposed of in the regular trash when completely dried out. A full list of acceptable and unacceptable materials can be found at www.concordnh.gov/hhw.

Proof of Concord residency is required. Residents MUST remain in their vehicle and attendants will safely remove materials for them. Items should remain in their original containers with tightened lids and be packed in sturdy upright boxes to avoid spills. Never mix chemicals or smoke while handling hazardous waste.

Do your part to keep the Concord community safe and clean by attending this year’s Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day.

LABOR DAY

Our office and all City of Concord offices will be closed on Monday, September 6 in observance of Labor Day. Trash collection for Monday will be postponed until Tuesday. Collection for the rest of the week will be delayed by one day through Saturday. The Transfer Station will also be closed on Monday. We wish everyone a safe and happy Labor Day!

NEW ART ON MAIN STREET

Our Downtown Services Team helped with the installation of two new art pieces on North Main Street a couple of weeks ago. "Into the Wind" and "Sunflower from Mars" are both created by Chris Plaisted. "Into the Wind" has been set up in front of The Works Cafe and "Sunflower from Mars" has been placed near The POST Downtown and Parlor Salon.

These sculptures were placed as part of the 4th Annual Outdoor Sculpture Exhibit, Art on Main, organized by the Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce's Creative Concord Committee and the City of Concord. Art on Main is a free, open-air, 24/7 year-round outdoor art exhibition that features numerous works by professional artists from the New England area. We are excited to see these new pieces added to downtown! Find more information about the Art on Main exhibit at www.concordnhchamber.com/CreativeConcord.

REPORT A CONCERN:
SEECLICKFIX & MYCONCORDNH

It's now easier than ever to report a concern to the City of Concord. We've partnered with SeeClickFix to implement an online citizen reporting platform and mobile app, MyConcordNH.

Submit a request by utilizing the web portal on the City’s website or download the free MyConcordNH app. Requests can be made for a variety of categories, including: potholes, missed trash collection, snow plowing, downtown maintenance, trees, water, sewer, and more. This system is not monitored 24/7 and should not be used to report emergencies.

Requests are automatically assigned to appropriate City staff, providing a faster and more direct way to connect with the City. Get email updates regarding requests, view your request history, and explore the map to see what has been publicly reported in the community.

The MyConcordNH mobile app is available for download on Android and iPhone. In addition to the reporting tool, the app includes links to important City services and information. City notices, such as winter parking bans or delayed trash collection, will be sent as push notifications on the app.

Report a concern and learn more at concordnh.gov/seeclickfix.

CITY AUDITORIUM
"FRIEND OF THE YEAR" AWARD

We are very honored! The Friends of the Concord City Auditorium named our "Great Guys of the City's Public Properties Division" as the Audi's 2021 Friend of the Year!

The Friends of the City Audi presented our division with this award in appreciation of the years of maintenance and care provided, especially for recent significant upgrades to the facility with special attention this year to COVID-19 modifications. This is the first time this award is being honored to a group rather than an individual.

The Concord City Auditorium is just one of the many facilities our Public Properties Division maintains year-round. Our team is made up of a great crew and always does an outstanding job. Photo by Sheila Knight and Concord Photo Service. Pictured from left: Bob Knapp, Mike Pickering, Jaime Bardwell, Ed Bisson, Ryan Schneider, and Scott Benoit. Recognition also goes to those not pictured, including Jay Burgess, Tucker Farenwald, Steve Wilson, Larry White, Mike De Bernardo and Brian Wiik. We are happy to help support the home of Concord's community-based art groups. Thank you for this recognition!

There is no cost to participate in our program. Just fill out a release form, pick-up free blue bags at our office, perform a clean-up, leave the bags roadside, and then notify us when you're done and we'll collect the bags! It's that easy! It's a great way to volunteer, keep our community clean, and protect our local environment. Individuals, groups, and organizations are all welcome to participate. Get involved in our Blue Bag Program at www.concordnh.gov/bluebagprogram.

LAKE SAMPLING
WITH ST. PAUL'S SCHOOL

Science students from St. Paul's School visited our water treatment facility a few weeks ago to gather water samples and test water quality. Recreational activity is prohibited on the lake to maintain water quality and protect our drinking water source, so all canoes were thoroughly cleaned at the school and carefully inspected by our facility staff to ensure the lake is protected from invasive aquatic species. St. Paul's School has been gathering data from Penacook Lake for over 25 years, providing a great partnership and resource for the school and our facility. Maybe someday one of these students will join the water industry or even end up running our facility!
