Catalfamo Calls for Immediate Action to Require Bail for "Terroristic Threats"

May 17, 2022 -- Wilton, New York - In the wake of the horrific racist murders in Buffalo, Assembly candidate Dave Catalfamo today called for immediate action to require bail for "terroristic threats."

In 2020, as part of the colossal failed criminal justice changes, Albany Democrats specifically required the release of individuals who made terroristic threats without bail. In the wake of the Buffalo mass shooting, a copy cat threat, under the current law would have allowed the individual to be set free without bail.

"This is just another example where Judges need the discretion to assess risk and to create a level of accountability that bail can provide," said Catalfamo.

As a candidate for Assembly, Catalfamo has called for an end to cashless bail and criticized his opponent Carrie Woerner for her one time support of the law and lack of leadership to change it.

Catalfamo concluded, "The lack of common sense in Albany is frightening, under our current law neither a murderous racist or Osama Bin Laden could be held on bail for leveling terroristic threats."
