Currents: The Leading Light Wind Newsletter

Introducing Leading Light Wind

Welcome to Currents, our newly launched newsletter brought to you by Leading Light Wind.

Leading Light Wind (LLW) is an American-led, offshore wind project that will bring locally sourced renewable energy to the East Coast. Developed by Invenergy and New York-based energyRe, we believe in empowering the communities where we live and work and advancing a just, clean energy transition.

LLW will build on our track record of innovation in New York developing sustainable American infrastructure and impactful community engagement to advance public health, create good-paying jobs and support our local supply chain.

LLW is an offshore wind project in the New York Bight located 40 miles east of Atlantic City, and 80 miles south of Long Island. The lease (BOEM OCS-A-0542) covers 84,000 acres of seabed. Once operational, due to the project’s distance from land, turbines are not expected to be visible from shore.
Our team is at work meeting with key communities and stakeholders across New York to hear local perspectives, support opportunities for inclusive decision-making, and identify how we can best support the communities we’ll be working in.

MW of clean energy

Meet the members of the LLW team! This month, we are highlighting three members of our team: Wes Jacobs, Sarah Hudak, and Ron Larsen.

Wes Jacobs
Senior Project Director
Wes leads all development activities for the project and brings decades of experience in the energy sector to the LLW team.

Sarah Hudak
Fisheries Liaison Officer (FLO)
With years of experience in the maritime industry, Sarah leads LLW's engagement with fishing communities.

Ron Larsen
Fisheries Engagement Team
Ron brings over 20 years of experience in the maritime industry to the LLW team.

We recently announced our new partnership with the Business Network for Offshore Wind, which will enhance local supply chain access and spur local economic growth by providing LLW with direct access to a growing network of 3,000+ supply chain partners.
Sarah Hudak and Ron Larsen were featured in WorkBoat following the announcement of our new fisheries engagement team. Hudak and Larsen together bring over 25 years of experience in the fishing and maritime industries. Hudak said “I look forward to working closely with our fishing communities to promote an authentic and effective dialogue between mariners and Leading Light Wind during the project’s development and beyond.”

Our Fisheries Engagement Team developed LLW’s Fisheries Communication Plan (FCP), which outlines the robust engagement strategy that will facilitate open dialogue with fishing stakeholders and timely communications about the project. The plan is the first of many initiatives from the team to facilitate close coordination between LLW and the commercial and recreational fishing communities.
