Santa Fe Institute Education
2022 Summer Programs

The Santa Fe Institute (SFI) is now accepting applications for our in-person summer education programs. We offer a range of programs, for undergraduate students through to early-career faculty, aimed to instill participants with an understanding of, and practice in, SFI's approach to describing, modeling and predicting the behavior of complex systems across domains and scales. We are looking for candidates eager to challenge themselves to work transdisciplinarily, across boundaries, among a motivated and diverse group of fellow participants.

Education Residential Program
Undergraduate Complexity Research

June 5 - August 13, 2022
Santa Fe, New Mexico

For undergraduate students interested in gaining experience with complex systems modeling and theory. A ten-week mentored independent research experience, offering both intellectual freedom and exceptional guidance as a member of SFI's summer research community. UCR students receive a stipend and room and board and travel support.

Complex Systems Summer School

June 12 - July 8, 2022
Santa Fe, New Mexico

For graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, early-career faculty, research professionals, and other transdisciplinary scholars and leaders. An intensive, four-week immersion in foundational theory and applications of complex systems science. A series of seminars, workshops, and discussions introduce participants to SFI research. Group projects inspire collaborations that extend far beyond summer.

Graduate Workshop

June 26 - July 8, 2022
Santa Fe, New Mexico

For Ph.D. students with research interests in quantitative social sciences. A two-week, research-intensive workshop to enhance, expand, or extend the thesis research through incorporation of mathematical or computational modeling. The unparalleled faculty-student ratio ensures individualized attention.

Education Residential Program
Complexity-GAINs International Summer School

July 3 - July 16, 2022
Vienna, Austria

For Ph.D. students in the natural and social sciences, computation, and mathematics interested in exploring international collaboration. A two-week, hands-on foundation in the integration of theory, modeling, and empirical data analysis to understand complex systems. The focus in 2022 will be the disintegration of society. The program, including accommodations and travel, is low- or no-cost to participants.
