Laudato Si' Anniversary

The one-year anniversary of Laudato Si’ is June 18th. The anniversary will be an excellent time for our communities to study and reflect on this historic encyclical.

Please let us know if we can assist your group with a Laudato Si'  presentation.  Patty Gillis, Sister Janet Stankowski, and Sister Pat Benson have all recently made presentations.

An Evening With Mary Evelyn Tucker

Join us on Tuesday, June 14 from 7-9pm for an evening of discovery and conversation with Mary Evelyn Tucker and John Grim as we watch the film Journey of the Universe at Mercy Center Chapel, 29000 W. 11 Mile, Farmington, MI. Please see flyer for details or view on our website. We hope to see you there!

Day of Education at Hope House

Hope House hosted our first student field trip group. Twenty-eight students and parents from Palmer Park Preparatory Academy visited Hope House and learned about nature and vegetable production. They were supported by Great Lakes Bioneers Detroit and the USDA CHIRP program. Three middle school students also prepared short presentations before hand to teach to the elementary students about kale, garlic, and onions. After a tour of the property and presentations, the group enjoyed lunch and played in the backyard after.

Lights On at Hope House

Gillis brothers, Dan and Jim, literally bring light to the site of our Agroecology Center. The space now has multiple CFL and LED lights, outlets, and an energy efficient fan. Now we're one step closer to offering evening and year-round engagement!

BioBlitz 2016

Over 60 people converged at D-Town Farm on May 14th for the annual BioBlitz. The event brings together youth from Detroit, mostly in the Food Warriors program of the Detroit Black Community Food Security Network. We partner with organism specialists and ecologists to sample the farm for all of the creatures that live there. Voices has been a primary planner of the event the last two years, and this year also featured delicious vegan food catered by our garden manager, Bianca!

Join Us for a Summer Celebration

Please join us June 25th to celebrate the official start of summer, the longest day of the year (June 20), and our progress at Hope House. We will have a tour of the property featuring our up-and-coming Agroecology Education Center, rain garden, vegetable garden, and residential space. The event will be a potluck, so please feel free to bring anything that is good for both people and the Earth.
