September 21, 2016
A GREAT BIG THANK YOU to Jodie Kim, Kristy Fravel, and all the teachers and parent volunteers who made the Back to School BBQ such a success!

I hope everyone was able to get out and enjoy the nice weather with friends old and new.

We have received $6,225 in donations so far. That's almost 30% of our $20,000 donations goal. While it's a good start, we still have a long way to go! Every penny of your donations go into our school. 76 families have joined the PTA, but remember that very little of PTA membership dues make it back to the school.

Many of your employers will match your non-profit donations dollar for dollar. From now through October 31, anyone who submits a corporate matching donation will be entered into a drawing for a free $50 Coldstone gift card!

If you haven't joined or donated yet,  or in case you misplaced your Membership Flyer, here it is. You can also join and donate by going to

If you have any questions, contact Melanie Nunez, our Membership Secretary.

We are looking for volunteers who can spend just an hour in front of Giant (359 Maple Ave E, Vienna, VA 22180) to ask shoppers to support our school by linking their Giant Rewards Cards numbers to Freedom Hill ES.  OUR FIRST DATE IS THIS FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 23. This helps our school earn CASH every time they shop with their Giant Card!  (It costs shoppers nothing to participate in this program).  Last year Freedom Hill ES earned $11,390 through this program!  Please help us raise more dollars this year, as these funds go directly to the school to support valuable programs for our children.

Click here for the link to volunteer. Note: student volunteers must be accompanied by a parent/guardian.

Freedom Hill Elementary will be putting on a 5K race and 1-mile fun run on October 23, 2016.  This event will be fun for the whole family, with face painting and other activities for children and an appearance by Ernie the Eagle!  Overall and age group awards will be given following the event.

You can register online at or avoid the online convenience fee by sending in a printable entry form. Runners and walkers of all paces and abilities are encouraged to sign up and support our school!

We are also very much in need of local businesses to sponsor our event.  Sponsors will have the opportunity to set up a booth at our start/finish line, put items in our goody bags, and have their logo on both our race website and t-shirt.  This is a fantastic opportunity to support our school and reach a large audience with a tax-deductible donation!  If you know of a potential business sponsor or have sponsorship ideas please contact Gretchen Lynch at

In the November 8 General Election, Fairfax County Voters will be asked to vote YES or NO on a meals tax question. The question asks voters to allow the Board of Supervisors to impose a 4 percent meals tax on certain prepared foods, which would be paid by residents, commuters and tourists. If the majority of voters approve the meals tax, the Board of Supervisors would dedicate the revenues to two purposes. First, 70% of the net revenues would be dedicated to Fairfax County Public Schools. Second, 30% of the net revenues would be dedicated to County services, capital improvements and property tax relief. If approved by voters, the meals tax is estimated to generate approximately $99 million in the first year - with 28% of that amount coming from non-county residents.
Please help us to:
* Keep the best teachers
* Reduce class sizes
* Preserve school programs like foreign language            immersion, music, and sports
* Invest in our parks and repair our playgrounds
* Expand library hours and services
* Invest in public health and public safety
* Achieve property tax relief

A few pennies will go a long way to improve and protect our quality of life.

Join us and vote YES on November 8.
