Excerpts:

Accompanying others with love

Accompanying others with love

Jesus, through the examples of the Good Samaritan, the man born blind and the resurrection of Lazarus, comes to reveal to us that he is the Light of the World. His light is meant to penetrate our entire lives and we are called to be “light-bearers” to others. We are called to imitate Jesus’ example and have a similar compassion for the helpless.

Let us remember Pope Francis’ words to young people: “Jesus addresses each of us and says: ‘Get up!’” We know that as Christians, we are challenged to rise up and defend those in need.

Cultivating an authentic relationship with God

Cultivating an authentic relationship with God

Learning to pray is as necessary as it is difficult. We want to begin a journey with you to learn how to pray. However, not in a way that does results a mechanical repetition of learned sentences, a monologue that is contained within a specific period of time. July Pope Video – Our Families

July Pope Video – Our Families

The often-frenetic rhythm of life that we follow is detrimental to our family life. July Reflection – Our Families

July Reflection – Our Families

Much writing about the family, for example in letters of the Pope and bishops, emphasizes the mission or tasks of the family – what the family should do, and what we expect of families.

But the intention of this month shifts a bit to what we should do for the family to make their mission possible. This is important because we know the many challenges facing the family today. We see photos of children separated from parents, homeless and refugee children, and the tyranny of the cellphone which interrupts family conversation.

Brother Lawrence, a Carmelite monk of the 17th century, advised a friend in one of his letters not to ask God for a cure from the pain, but strength to endure it.

“I told you, in my last [letter], that [God] sometimes permits bodily diseases to cure the distempers of the soul.
