As fall officially begins, the Justice Center is grateful to have the support and partnership of some of the top law firms and corporate legal departments in the world. In the last two years, more than 60% of the AmLaw top 50 law firms have contributed to the Justice Center by giving to our Gala or the Law Firm and Corporate Appeal, or both. You can find the list of our supporters for the 2019 calendar year here.

Our pro bono partners have an immeasurable impact on the New York community through their pro bono legal work and financial support for the Justice Center, which helps thousands of low income New Yorkers with critical legal services each year.

If you haven’t donated to the Justice Center yet this year, please consider making a much-needed contribution to our 2019-2020 Law Firm and Corporate Appeal. Your donations are crucial to the good work for disadvantaged New Yorkers that we do together.

Like donuts and apple cider, we enhance each other when we partner together to help disabled vets, homeless families, or immigrants targeted for removal. Through our pro bono partnerships, we provide 26,000 New Yorkers with free legal help annually. This fall, do good in good company!

New York’s Veterans Need More Free Legal Help

The Veterans Assistance Project, ably led by Project Director Kent Eiler, continues to work on behalf of New York City’s underserved disabled veterans. With strong support from AIG, Bloomberg, Cadwalader, Cleary Gottlieb, Credit-Agricole, Davis Polk, IBM, Kirkland & Ellis, Mayer Brown, McCarter & English, Morgan Stanley, Proskauer, Seward & Kissel, Seyfarth Shaw, and Weil, VAP has won 19 cases so far this year and done groundbreaking advocacy to draw attention to the need for more free legal assistance to vets. New York's statewide veteran population is the fifth largest in the country (at approximately 800,000), but New York lags far behind other states in benefits received from the VA. This often results in New York providing State and City-level benefits to veterans who should be receiving federal benefits instead. To help rectify this situation, New York needs qualified lawyers and advocates to assist its veterans in acquiring the federal benefits they deserve.

Read the NYC Bar Association's report on the inadequate legal services for veterans here and the Justice Center's post on the topic here.
