In between various bouts of influenza, we were able to take my mother and brother to Tokyo and get a nice family pic.

January/February 2019 Update

New Year, New Life

<<Salutation>>

Thank you for your prayers for us over the Holidays. It was a wonderful blessing to have my mom and brother come visit us for a few weeks over New Years. We enjoyed showing them around and just spending time with them.

We would like to let you know another life has been added to our family and he (in the generic sense) is planned to make an appearance the end of July. Pray for safety for Nozomi and the new baby. This will be our first birth in Japan.

In line with that, pray with us as we search for a bigger place to live before the new baby arrives. We have many questions about how and where we will be moving that, at this point, only God knows. We would like to find a place that, obviously, is bigger (our place is only 65 sq.m/700 sq.ft.) and is a little more permanent so that we can begin having people into our home more regularly and connecting with our neighbors. We would also love to start a Bible study in our home. Something we cannot currently do in our rental.

Please continue to pray for my Japanese studies. I am in the middle of studying the different ways to say something depending on nuance and getting frustrated with constantly forgetting the right way to say something or just plain missing the nuance and saying the wrong thing. It has been very frustrating for me. I never was a good memorizer but was always good at figuring things out logically. This seems to be straight memorization. Pray for patience for my teachers as well.

Keep praying for the kids. Their greatest need is for God to save them. They need a relationship with God. Sometimes, I can see God working a tenderness to spiritual things in their lives. Other times, I also can see the error of moralism and legalism in their hearts as they regularly and gracelessly expose each other's mistakes and sins.

As for Kensei's eyes, we haven't been able to find the help he needs here in Japan. But we did find a school that teaches parents how to train their children to control their eyes (because it's actually a brain issue). One of us might need to make a trip back to the US for a week to get this training. The school is in Philadelphia. Pray for wisdom and funds to do this.

We are still praying for Gospel-centered Christian friends and fellowship. We all need other Christians to speak God's grace into our lives, to help us keep our eyes on Jesus even when we are waist deep in the muck of this world, not to smear our faces in the mud when we make mistakes. We trust God will provide this type of fellowship for us because we know we need it to grow well rooted.

We are also still praying about possibly planting an international church here in the West Makuhari - East Tokyo area. Much of this prayer would be answered as we find a new place to live.

You and your love and care for us are a great blessing to us. It is an honor to be working together with you to take the Gospel to the many lost in Japan. If you have any questions about what we are doing in Japan, or about partnering with us financially please do not hesitate to email me.

Love,
Jared
There's a really pretty park near our house where we took my mom and brother the first time we were able to get out of the house.
It was nice Nozomi's parents were able to see my mom and brother. Hopefully next time my dad will be able to come as well.
