Town council seeks assurances from Post Office after ATM raid
Waltham Abbey Town Council is asking Post Office bosses to confirm that the ATM at the Sun Street post office in Waltham Abbey - which was 'blown up' in a robbery - will be replaced and the post office reopened as soon as possible.
Three men, described as black, caused an explosion which forced open the ATM at about 1.45am on Saturday, February 23.
The men drove off in a black car with an undisclosed sum of cash.
In a letter to Post Office chief executive Paula Vennells, town clerk Kathryn Richmond said: "We have been assisting the police where we can. We would also like to request that the Post Office is repaired and re-opened as soon as possible; it is an essential service within our town.
"We would also strongly support the reinstatement of the ATM at the Post Office.
"Having had two bank branch closures in recent years, the facility offered by your ATM is also invaluable within our town centre."
The town council is also asking for a date for the re-opening of the post office "so that we can reassure our residents".
