New parish council chairman sees facilities for young people as among his priorities for the year
The new chairman of Buckhurst Hill Parish Council has set out his priorities for the year.
Councillor Steven Neville was elected chairman at the Annual Council Meeting with fellow Green Party councillor Simon Heap elected as vice-chairman.
Councillor Neville said: "I am absolutely delighted that the parish council has chosen me to be their chairman for 2021-22.
"I hope all parish councillors can work together over the next year regardless of the label that they were elected on.
"As a children’s worker I’m keen to promote ideas to improve the offer for children and young people in the area. I hope I can do Buckhurst Hill proud over the next year."
Speaking at the Annual Council Meeting, district councillor Aniket Patel congratulated councillor Neville on his election and highlighted the work of former council chairman Smruti Patel.
Mr Neville thanked former councillors Joseph Barkham, Jane Forker Clark, Sam Clark, Bobby Nagpal, Glenys Reynolds, Sylvia Watson, Neville Wright and Smruti Patel for their service to the community, saying Mrs Patel had put the people of Buckhurst Hill first, working tirelessly both as a councillor and as council chairman.
He said the new council should all be working together for the interests of Buckhurst Hill, to serve the people of Buckhurst Hill.
He told the meeting he would like to see the development of facilities for children and young people, building on the ideas of the skatepark and the revival of the Hornbeam Road playground.
