Debden Park High School at West Essex Boccia competition
A number of students at Debden Park High School, Loughton, took part in the West Essex Boccia tournament at King Harold Academy, Waltham Abbey - another TKAT Academy.
Students played several games against other teams in the West Essex School Sports Partnership.
Debden Park's school sports co-ordinator Nick Denham said: "It was great to see students who might not normally represent the school in sporting activities enjoy the day and competition in the district.
"Many of our students tried the sport for the first time, picking up the rules and tactics quickly. They are now looking forward to more events."
The aim of boccia is to throw red or blue balls as close as possible to a white target ball, or jack.
The jack is thrown first, then the first two regular balls are played (first, the player who threw the jack then the opposing side), after which the side furthest away from the jack goes next in an attempt to either get closer to the jack or knock the opposition's ball out of the way.
Each end continues until one side has played all their balls at which point the opposing side will play their remaining balls.
The games can be played in teams, mixed gender and are fully inclusive.
