Exciting times lie ahead for football in Epping with "the rebirth of a sleeping giant" as Epping Town Football Club prepares for a new season - and a new era.

Under one name or another football has been played in Epping since 1948 when the original Epping Football Club was formed as Coopersale FC and played in Coopersale.

Various name changes have taken place over the decades but this season - the 70th anniversary season for football in Epping - the reborn Epping Town Football Club will play its home matches at the Stonards Hill Recreation Ground as it looks to quickly climb the non-league ladder.

Epping Town will be playing in Senior Division 4 of the Essex Olympian League.

Changes have taken place on and off the pitch with new backroom staff, including a new chairman (Chris Ottaway), a new manager (Billy Cove, who joins Epping Town from Essex Senior League club Ilford) - and several new signings who have joined from higher-ranked clubs.

Club chairman Chris Ottaway said: "We're really looking forward to the new season and the rebirth of a sleeping giant that in the 1970s was a force to be reckoned with when Stonards was a fortress.

"Hopefully now with the right committee set-up, manager, players and infrastructure, commmercial support and fans from Epping we can get the club back to where it should be."

Chris added: "Our priority immediately is to get back to the Essex Senior League as fast as we possibly can.

"To do that we've brought in a seasoned professional manager (Billy Cove) who has acquired quite a few players already.

"Together we are going to work as hard as we possibly can to get the club back to where it should be.

"Everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet and hopefully we are going to achieve what we want to."
