King Harold Academy to boost links with Waltham Abbey Town Council
A concert in the Abbey Gardens in Waltham Abbey is just one potential event involving King Harold Academy students and Waltham Abbey Town Council.
The concert involving students from the Broomstick Hall Road school was one of the ideas discussed at a meeting between the school and council.
Permission would need to be obtained from the Lea Valley Regional Park Authority if a concert is take place.
The town council and school is also looking into the possibility of relaunching the Waltham Abbey Youth Council which could see students using the town council chamber at the town hall as a venue for discussions on town issues, and holding a meeting for the town’s young people to give their input into the town’s Neighbourhood Plan.
King Harold Academy students have been invited to take part in the Cavalcade of Light procession on Friday, November 25.
They could also perform at the Waltham Abbey Christmas Fayre on Saturday, November 26, and provide entertainment at the mayor-making event next year.
Town and district councillor Liz Webster told Wednesday's town council meeting: “It’s really good how involved the King Harold Academy will be with Waltham Abbey Town Council.”
Head of School Kim Thackray said: “The staff, students and parents are delighted to become involved in the life of the community.
"As Head of School I am passionate to put the King Harold Academy at the heart of Waltham Abbey and look forward to our successful collaboration."
