Hereward Primary School has received a selection of poetry books as part of its entry into the Premier League Writing Stars competition.

This aims to use the appeal of the Premier League to inspire children to learn, be active and develop important life skills.

A number of children wrote poems based on the theme of 'resilience'.

Schools that are successful in the competition will have a visit from the Premier League Trophy.

Year 6 pupil Connor said: "It would be really cool if Kevin de Bruyne came too!"

Headteacher Matt Woolard said: "The book pack the school received contained some fantastic poetry texts from authors including Michael Rosen and Julie Donaldson.

"The children are excited about receiving such a special gift and are looking forward to when the winning poems will be announced in February."
