The chairman of Epping Town Football Club has issued a 'your club needs you' plea ahead of Saturday's visit of Great Baddow in the Third Round of the Essex Senior League Cup.

The winners will have a home quarter-final tie against either Catholic United or Sungate.

The match is at the Stonards Hill recreation ground, Epping, with a 1.30pm kick-off.

Club chairman Chris Ottaway added: "Great Baddow are a Premier Division outfit and being at home must be made to be an advantage.

"We had 60 people at the last game and if we could double that then the home atmosphere will act as an extra player.

"This game is so important to all of us - your support is needed and will be greatly appreciated."

He added: "Once again we have been out around the town putting up posters and would like to thank the shops and businesses who are displaying them for us.

"The match is the biggest for the club for many years and it would be marvellous to see the town turn out to support the lads as we aim for a place in the quarter-finals."

The club is keen to attract ball boys and ball girls for the match. Anyone who would like to be involved should turn up on the day.

The match is the second for the new-look club since its return to the Tidys Lane ground following the refurbishment of the changing rooms at the Jack Silley Pavilion.

The club this week received the backing of Epping Town Council over its wish for a spectator shelter and seating and is now set to work with the council to try and secure grant funding.

Epping's Tesco store has showed its support for the club by donating 18 drinks bottles for use by the players this weekend.

Gemma Murless, from Epping Tesco, said: "We are pleased to be able to help the team and hope they progress in the competition on Saturday."

Mr Ottaway said: "We would like to thank Tesco for their kind gesture.

"We are delighted with the support being shown in the club by the local business community but would still welcome input from local shops and companies, as well as local people, who would like to help us progress and be successful both on and off the pitch."
