Staff and students at King Harold Academy have been stepping out for Sport Relief - with a sporting non-uniform day, a relay run and staff 'step count'.

Students paid £1 each to wear sporting apparel and some took an hour out of their day to run miles as part of a relay team.

Several teams managed to run over five miles during their one-hour time slot with the total distance totalling some 110 miles.

In addition, staff tracked their steps over five days with the aim of collectively walking over one million steps during the school week as part of the 'Sport Relief Mile'.

King Harold Academy decided to embrace this initiative and contribute towards the “Billion Step Challenge” which was one of the initiatives for 2018.

Staff smashed their target collectively clocking up more than 12m steps with the biggest contributors coming from the PE department and members of the site team.

Head of School Kim Thackray said: "It was wonderful to see the entire academy community embrace Sport Relief and contribute to raising money and awareness.

"Students are already talking about the next big charity event and what King Harold Academy will do to participate."

Sport Relief raises money to help vulnerable people in the UK and the world's poorest countries.
