King Harold Academy holds open morning
King Harold Academy opened its doors to hundreds of parents and members of the local community on Saturday.
Visitors were able to walk around the Academy and watch demonstrations by students and also get actively involved in many subjects including Physical Education, Cookery, Art, Science, History and Information Technology.
The new Subject Ambassadors were at each department to meet and greet visitors.
There were also performances by bands busking around the Academy.
On hand to guide visitors were the current Year 11 prefects and Year 10 students.
Speeches were given by Head of School Kim Thackray, Executive Head Christian Cavanagh and three senior prefects - Head Girl Lisa Nakimuli, Senior Prefect Regan Hughes-Franklin and Deputy Head Girl Morgan Healy.
There was a clear message about the transformation of the Academy that culminated in excellent end-of-year results and the Good Ofsted judgement in May 2016.
Mrs Thackray was also able to report to the audience that King Harold Academy was one of the most improved schools in Essex.
Mrs Thackray said: "This academy has, at its centre, a culture of success and excellence for all.
"Parents have been quick to say how impressed they were with the refurbishment of the school, that students wore the new uniform with pride and spoke of being very proud of their school.”
Visitors were asked for their opinion of their experiences during the morning.
A prospective Year 6 pupil said: "I really enjoyed the competitions in maths and want to come year next year.”
One parent said: “The bands playing around the school are fantastic and we have read a lot about the great music events the school takes part in.”
Another parent said: "The Head speaks with real passion and I believe my child will enjoy coming to this school, be looked after and do really well.”
