New Waltham Abbey Mayor Antony Watts has praised outgoing Mayor Jeane Lea for the "splendid job" she did as Mayor over the past 12 months.
Cllr Watts, speaking at last night's Annual Meeting, said: "Jeane is a hard act to follow. She has been an absolute wonder this year and has done an absolutely splendid job."
Cllr Watts, who is serving his fourth term as Mayor having previously held the position in 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2011-12, said his charities for the year would be the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance and Waltham Abbey Youth 2000.
Cllr Lea, reflecting on her year as Mayor, said: "This has been a very, very busy year."
Highlights of her year included the 100th anniversary of the Great War, the rededication of the town's war memorial, the opening of the Larsens recreation ground changing rooms - following a £20,000 Essex County Council Community Initiatives Fund grant - Waltham Abbey in Bloom and the joint carol service with Epping Forest District Council.
"There have been so many things - it has been a very, very good year."
Syd Stavrou was elected Deputy Mayor with councillor Liz Webster re-elected council leader and councillor Helen Kane deputy leader.
