King Harold Academy Jack Petchey Award Winners
Nine King Harold Academy students and a member of staff have received Jack Petchey Foundation awards.
Students Jenny Couch, Amy Beer, Kai Easteal, Mai-Lei Chan, Jess Tooley, Ennice Dixon, Georgina Askew, Phakon Senangoen and Gina Englezou were recognised at the Epping Forest awards ceremony.
The winners were nominated by other students for a variety of reasons including helping in the local community, fundraising for charities, overcoming adversity and helping others.
Assistant headteacher and Jack Petchey award co-ordinator Carl Freeborn said he was proud to see the students recognised and added that it was nice to see the other side of teenagers rather than the image sometimes portrayed in the media.
He said: "Waltham Abbey has some very positive young people and they are a credit to the school, their parents and the wider community in which we live."
Each winner received £250 to be spent on items that the Student Council has requested.
PE teacher Eleana Clark, one of King Harold's newest teachers, received a leader's award for her dedication towards sport for young people.
Miss Clark has only been at the school for just over a year and has already made a huge impact on the sports department and students.
Students were asked to vote for a member of staff who had made a difference.
