The 80th anniversary of the Rotary Club of Epping has been marked with a gala dinner and the presentation of a special award to two long-serving members.
Between them John Padfield and Len Stace have clocked up 87 years of service to the Rotary club.
In recognition of their contribution to the club and the community Rotary Club of Epping President Barbara Scruton presented them with the sapphire Paul Harris Fellowship award at the gala celebration at Chigwell Golf Club on Saturday.
John Padfield organised the club's very successful Youth Makes Music for many years and has taken a leading role in most club activities since joining in 1970.
Len Stace was president of the Epping club in both its Golden and Diamond Jubilee years, and he introduced the club’s annual ‘Service above Self’ award in the Golden Jubilee year in 1986.
Among the guests were Epping Town Mayor Les Burrows, and Rotary District Governor Helen Antoniou who presented President Barbara with a certificate to mark the club's 80th anniversary.
President Barbara highlighted some of the milestone events of the club over the 80 years, and some of the more recent successes and community involvement events including its Christmas collections, Carols on the Green on Christmas Eve - which has been held for the last 13 years - its Youth Makes Music concerts and this year's Youth Makes Art exhibition along with its strong links with Epping St John's School, the introduction of a Corporate Member scheme, and the club's support of Purple4Polio which has seen the club plant some 5,000 purple crocus corms throughout the town with the support of the Epping in Bloom organisation.
President Barbara said: "The town may have changed but our club continues to serve the community in different ways."
