Still time to enter a float for Cavalcade of Light - and be in the running
to win £1,000
There is still time for organisations to sign up to take part in Waltham Abbey's Cavalcade of Light - and be in with a chance of winning a £1,000 prize for the best float.
Waltham Abbey Town Council, which organises the event, is offering cash prizes for the first time.
The council will present a £1,000 prize to the best float entry and £500 to the best pedestrian entry at this year's event, on Friday, November 24.
Town Mayor Mick Fitch said: "The Cavalcade of Light is always a wonderful spectacle and a great start to the Christmas period with the procession and the switching on of the lights outside the town hall.
"This year the town council has decided to offer prizes to the best entries - floats and on foot - and we hope that many more organisations and individuals will enter in the festive spirit and dress up.
"We launched the Cavalcade of Light much earlier this year to give people extra time to decide on their theme and outfits - and we look forward to seeing people turn out in even greater numbers than usual to help make the event even better this year."
Organisations already registered for the event, which starts from the Cornmill car park, include Abbey Flower Designs, Enfield Carnival, Duncan Phillips estate agents, Abbey Youth Football Club, Waltham Abbey Army Cadet Force, the Through the Fight Foundation and Upshire Primary School.
Entry forms are available from Waltham Abbey Town Council, Town Hall, Highbridge Street, Waltham Abbey, or by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org
