Manager issues come and support us' plea as club closes
in on promotion

Epping Town manager Billy Cove is calling on the town to turn out in force on Saturday for the last home game of the season - and cheer the team to promotion.

Epping Town will be promoted from Senior Division Four of the Essex Olympian League if they beat Canning Town Reserves and Lakeside Reserves fail to beat Leigh Ramblers Reserves.

Epping Town currently trail leaders Corinthians by four points with both clubs having four matches to play, but the runners-up spot will be guaranteed if Epping Town beat Canning Town Reserves at Stonards Hill and fourth-placed Lakeside Reserves drop points at Leigh Ramblers Reserves.

Billy Cove said: "We reach our last home game of the season potentially able to secure promotion with a win. If you had offered me that at the start of the season, I’d have grabbed it with both hands.

"I’m really happy for the players and everyone that has contributed to the club this season.

"We had more than 40 supporters at our first home game so it would be lovely to see a similar number, if not more, at our last game on Saturday."

He added: "We won’t be worrying about results elsewhere as a lot of teams in this division only turn up when they want to, as we saw a couple of weeks ago.

"We won’t be relying on any favours from anyone, we’ll just concentrate on our own game and try to get the three points that put us closer to our season objective which was promotion.

"I really hope to see as many local people as possible cheering on the boys. They have done the town proud this season so they deserve the support of the local community."

Saturday's match is being sponsored by Tricky's Taxis when a victory would take Epping Town to 43 points.

The maximum points tally Lakeside Reserves can manage is 45 (and they host Epping Town on March 16) as they currently have five matches to play.

Should Lakeside drop points at Leigh Ramblers Reserves, then the most points they could then achieve, from their final four matches, would be 43, but Epping would still finish the season with more wins and have a far superior goal difference (currently +59 to Lakeside's +16).

Epping Town also have their sights set on another milestone, needing another 16 goals for 150 for the season.

Kick-off is at 2.30pm.

The Jack Silley Pavilion will be open for refreshments from 2pm.
