Students to take over museum for a day
Twelve Year 8 and Year 9 students at King Harold Academy will be taking over the Epping Forest District Museum for the day (Friday, November 18) running tours, organising activities and meeting visitors.
The day is the culmination of two days of preparation where the students visited the museum, in Sun Street, Waltham Abbey, and worked with staff to learn about the exhibits, how to handle them, how to give tours and organise activities around the displays.
The initiative has been organised by the school's Head of History, Hayley Piper, as part of the national `Museum Takeover Day’ organised by Kids In Museums.
The day is a celebration of children and young peoples' contributions to museums, galleries, arts organisations, archives and heritage sites.
It is a day on which they are given meaningful roles working alongside staff and volunteers to participate in the life of the museum.
Anyone wanting to go along to support the students are welcome at the museum between 10am and 3pm.
