School celebrates A-Level success as first Debden Park High School student heads for Cambridge

Debden Park High School Sixth Form has again produced another set of outstanding A-Level results. 

Executive Headboy Kai Melhuish is the first Debden Park student to go on to study at Cambridge after he achieved A*s in Sociology and English and an A in History.

He will now read History at Trinity College, Cambridge,

Kai said “I’m delighted to have got my place at Cambridge - it’s been a nervous few weeks leading up to the results but it’s an absolute dream come true! 

"I am so grateful for all the support given to me by the school over the last seven years.”

The school’s Sixth Form is now in its third year.

This year’s pass rate of 99 per cent includes a record number of A* grades and a record number of A*-B grades.

Other students are off to study at other prestigious universities including Exeter, Leeds and Newcastle, all of which are part of the Russell Group. Students are also headed to Loughborough, Southampton and the University of Surrey, all of which are in the top 25 most successful Universities.

Head of School Helen Gascoyne said: "We are incredibly proud of all our Year 13 students and their A-Level results, and in particular this year for Kai who is off to study at the best university in the country. 

"As a school we continue to be academically ambitious for all our students and these A-Level results are testament to our outstanding teaching throughout the school and to our commitment to building upon our sustained exemplary GCSE results.”

Executive headteacher Christian Cavanagh said: "We have proved that our Sixth Form continues to challenge all students to achieve their potential and beyond, and to make their dreams for their futures a reality. 

"Debden Park High School prides itself on instilling students with a real love of learning and to see so many of them carrying on their educational journeys to university and higher level apprenticeships is truly outstanding.”

Fahim Rahman, who has been at Debden Park since Year 7, achieved A, B, B grades in Chemistry, Maths and Physics and is now going to study Aerospace Engineering at Surrey.

He said: “I'm thrilled with my grades which are the results of some incredibly hard work by myself and my teachers since Year 7. 

"I can’t imagine studying anywhere else but here.”

Ellie Daniels, who joined in Year 12 from King Harold Academy in Waltham Abbey, achieved B, B, C in Biology, Chemistry and Maths and is now off to study Pharmacy at Hertfordshire. 

She said: “I always hoped I would succeed at A-Level but I'm overwhelmed with just how well I have done here at Debden. 

"I have loved my time here and from day one I felt part of the school. I would encourage any student to join Debden Park High School Sixth Form to achieve great things here as well."

Other top performers include: 

Shwan Shawais - A, A, A, B in Chemistry, Physics, Biology and Maths, and now off to study Medicine.
Ryan Grant - A, A, B in Geography and Planning at Newcastle University
Zoe Martin - A*, B, B - will now study for a Degree Apprenticeship with Hill Construction
George Carrig - A, B, B - will now be studying Media and Communication at Loughborough University
Fahim Rahman - A, B, B - will study Aerospace Engineering at University of Bath
Teddy Chamberlain - A, B, C - will now study English and History at University of Southampton.
