PDST Primary PE: In-School Support

Applications are now open for PDST in-school support. A primary PE advisor can visit your school to support you with planning and preparation of your PE programme, to facilitate lesson modelling across all strands of the PE curriculum and whole staff professional development sessions. Schools can apply for in-school PDST PE support through the online application system HERE
PDST Primary PE: Physical Literacy - Seminar4
(Booking Opens Soon)
This seminar focuses on developing pupils’ motivation and confidence to participate in physical activity for life. Participants will explore a variety of strategies that can be easily implemented in PE lessons to motivate and develop pupils’ confidence to improve participation in the PE lesson. Resources will be provided to teachers in attendance and this seminar will run in October in venues around the country. Sub cover is available for 2 teachers to attend from each school and booking will open in the coming weeks. Dates and venues will release on the PDST Primary PE website and Twitter over the coming weeks..
PDST Primary PE: Cooperative Learning Workshop (October/November)
Cooperative learning can be used across any strand of the PE curriculum and has been shown to enhance pupil motivation, confidence and ability to work together positively in PE. Dates and venues will release on the PDST Primary PE website and Twitter over the coming weeks..
IPPEA Annual Conference
(Saturday, October 22nd)
The Irish Primary PE Association (IPPEA) 2022 conference 'Practical and Playful Voices in PE' will take place in Marino Institute of Education, Dublin on Saturday, October 22.

PDST Post Primary PE: In-School Support

PDST Post Primary PE: Senior Cycle PE Framework The PDST Post Primary Physical Education team are continuing their national roll out of CPD for 5th and 6th years Leaving Certificate PE teachers this academic year. With the astronomical growth of the subject since 2018, these CPD events provide a vital support for teachers new to teaching the subject..
Similarly, the PDST Post Primary PE Team is overseeing the CPD for the NEW non-examinable Senior Cycle Physical Education Framework (SCPE). SCPE must now be taught to all TY, 5th and 6th year students across the country. Limited spaces are available for the Phase 2 CPD programme for teachers with TY, 5th or 6th year non-exam SCPE classes this academic year.

DATES for Your Diary (22/23) The ASF calendar for 22/23 includes all the dates for KEY events and for online support webinars. Please share with colleagues. VOLLEYBALL Ireland - Teacher Workshops
(September) These 2-hour Volleyball Ireland workshops are open to both primary and post primary school teachers (cost: €15) Guidance will be given about how to teach the essential skills and movements required to play:
Participants will receive a 4-week programme suitable for 4th to 6th class (primary schools) or 1st and 2nd years (post primary schools). Schools that complete the 4-week programme will be invited to a FUN 4v4 volleyball blitz, organised regionally.

#BeActive National Fitness Day - 'Take on the Teachers' (Thursday, September 22nd) Ireland Active invites primary and post primary schools to get active on National Fitness Day, Thursday, September 22nd. Children and young people are encouraged to ‘Take on the Teacher' in a physical activity challenge of their choosing. Four €150 sports equipment vouchers are up for grabs to schools that REGISTER their event and post a picture/video of challenge on social media, using the hashtag #takeontheteacher, and tagging Ireland Active. ASF: FIND OUT MORE webinars (September 19th and 20th)
This webinar is designed for PRIMARY schools/teachers that have not previously engaged with ASF and for schools that have allowed their ASF status lapse over a number of years. Topics include:
ASF: GETTING STARTED webinars (October 3rd - 11th) These webinars are designed to support PRIMARY schools that have agreed, at a whole staff level, to work towards ASF during 22/23. Practical advice and supports will be given to help schools to get the ASF process up and running. The webinars are differentiated for different school types to allow us to offer the best possible support. Topics include:
RENEWAL Criteria webinars (October 12th and 13th) This webinar focusses specifically on the Renewal Criteria.
