MARCH Newsletter
 
March is the month to start planning your Active School Week (ASW) programme. Read the ASW section of this newsletter below to find out about the support that is available to schools from sports organisations and leisure centres. And definitely check out the articles that have been submitted by schools - they are full of interesting and novel ways to promote physical activity.

IPPEA Conference FOOTAGE
The 13th annual Irish Primary Physical Education Association (IPPEA) Conference 2016, which took place 2 weeks ago, was a SELL OUT event with over 100 teachers in attendance from all around Ireland. Check out the video footage from the day. Full workshop notes available in the Members Section of website

PHYSICAL ACTIVITY

VHI Ladies Mini Marathon - TY Girls Challenge
Join the VHI All Ireland Girls TY School Challenge , in association with Get Ireland Walking, and start your programme by walking or jogging to raise money for your school or a cause. For further information click here. To enter click here.


Be Active ASAP
Congratulations to all the schools in Donegal, Kildare, Louth, Meath, Monaghan, Offaly and South Dublin that participated in teacher training in February. Upcoming training is being scheduled in all other counties this spring - express your interest here. Partnerships

One Million Step Challenge (Wicklow Sports Partnership
Wicklow schools (primary and post primary), are invited to take part in the One Million Step Challenge. Wicklow LSP will supply participating schools with pedometers, on loan, and tracking sheets. For further information contact Aisling Hubbard wicklowlsp@wicklowcoco.ie

SAILING Open days - Sailing Ireland
Sailing clubs, with the support of Local Sports partnerships, will open their doors for student TRY SAILING days during April. No boat, no experience necessary. Schools are asked to raise awareness about this initiative within their school community and as part of their planning for Active School Week (2016).

Many thanks to the National Governing Bodies of Sport and Ireland Active leisure Centres for offering to support schools that are running ASW programmes. New offers of support will be uploaded to the ASF website every MONDAY

SN Seosamh Naofa ran their first ASW programme in 2015.

ASW IDEAS
This ASW Power Point is full of ideas that schools can incorporate into ASW programmes. Schools considering running their first ASW programme might find it useful to show this power point at staff meetings. Other ideas can be found by visiting the ASW section of the website

Primary schools should have already received their ASW posters and Post Primary schools should receive them in the week beginning March 7th.
