April/May 2016 Newsletter

Hello all! This is my first newsletter of 2016 (several months behind!) as I've been lying low working on new ideas and pieces ahead of some interesting 2016 exhibitions, as well as attempting to move down to the South coast.

Here's a summary of events in 2016 so far and those coming up in the next month. I also include some new work, work in progress which is nearly finished and recent print releases below.  As usual, I've got a large backlog of other work in progress (not shown here) that I'll hopefully finish this year.

Thanks as always for your support and to everyone who has purchased my work xxx
Great to see the team at NME magazine picked out my Turn Me On (power) print as one of the "Things We Like" back in March!
New Work: Do You Hear Yourself When You Speak? ("What?"). Work in progress shot above.

This is a piece poking fun at some of the bizarre things people have said to me alongside "bigger picture" (ahem) corporate jargon, PR and political spin often surrounding us today.

Attached to the piece will be a Soil Excavation Device (formerly known as a spade but we must not call a spade a spade) and a whip and spinning top, each incoporating words and phrases too.

This is an edition of 2 in this silver background and 2 with a black background and white text. The silver version has neon on brushed aluminium in a deep aluminium frame. The black version is neon on acrylic, print and aluminium in deep aluminium frame. Email me for pricing and additional detail.
New Work: It's Complicated ("Life")

Pretty obviously, this is all about common features in our lives. The text is deliberately smaller than usual so it is a little harder to read - just like life, it takes a bit of work.

Edition of 3 on black background, neon on acrylic, photo print, aluminium in deep aluminium frame.

Edition of 2 on white background with blue glass/pink light - neon on direct printed aluminium in deep silver aluminium frame.

Photo above shows a shoot with Shoreditch-based super photographer Ben Fisher. Ben is the magician who manages to get excellent photos of my's not easy to photograph neon, especially with text all over the background.
New Work in progress: Be Wilder.  Collaboration with Louise McNaught.

A mega exciting piece I have been developing with Louise McNaught is finally nearly finished! I've been a fan of Louise's work for years, owning a couple of her pieces at home. After Louise came along to one of my exhibitions last year we brewed a plan to work on a collaboration and now it has become a reality! It will be exhibited next month...

Here is an in progress photo. The piece comprises examples of bewildering things and events and questions our freedom/how wild we really are. I think this is a great pairing of both of our themes in a piece which is fragile, beautiful and dark albeit with humour.

Neon on brushed aluminium. Flashes from "bewilder" to "wild". POA. Edition size tbd.
New Work in progress: [unnamed - for now "gone rogue" but will likely end up being called "The Story Of My Life" or "In Praise Of Deliveroo" ]

We've all been there....a quiet few drinks turns into a big night. This is a tongue in cheek piece about going "out-out" (the genius phrase coined by the excellent Micky Flanagan).

Neon on brushed aluminium in deep aluminium frame. Edition of 3.

When I have finished this I will do limited edition prints too.
All of the above new pieces will be exhibited during May. See details of May shows below.

I'll have a couple of other new pieces ready in the next 6 weeks or so including - finally - the confessions piece using the confession's from last October's The Green Room at The Other Art Fair!

SPECIAL COMMISSION: IT RUNS DEEP for Jaegermeister (exhibited at Drama, Park Lane).
I recently released limited edition signed giclee prints of the It's Complicated (life) and I've Been Diagnosed With Early Onset Midlife Crisis (the dream?) pieces. Both editions of 25 on hahnemuehle photo rag 308gsm.

No prints of the Rant piece at the moment I am afraid as I sold both copies I made so quickly i didn't get time to get them professionally photographed.  When I make the next copy there will definitely be prints but not for another 3-4 months or more I am afraid.  Sorry to people who have been asking for these.
Upcoming exhibition: We Are The Women by En Masse London.

Clerkenwell Design Week 24-26 May. I'll be exhibiting a couple of neons at this all-female group show.

Upcoming exhibition: Leontia Gallery's "Love To Death".

I'll be showing a bunch of the new neons here as part of a group show full of gorgeous, dark, work.

PV is Fri 6th May. Show runs 6th May -30 May. Angel.

See website for details:
Upcoming exhibition: curated by Lee Sharrock (Saatchi & Saatchi)

....more details to follow...

I am part of an awesome group show coming at the end of May....
Looking back: February 2016: Love Hertz at Lights of Soho

One of my collaboration pieces with Gemma Ward named "Dark Lips, Light Lies" (2013) was exhibited in Lights of Soho's gorgeous valentine's show.  Here I am pulling a stupid face next to the piece.
Looking back: April 2014: A few of my prints were on sale at the Lights of Soho stand at the latest installment of The Other Art Fair. As a visitor to the fair this time I got to spend the time checking out some gorgeous work by artists I hadn't previously seen. A very strong TOAF - and a buzzing PV!!
